Reds Ink Hernan Perez To Minors Deal

The Cincinnati Reds have signed utility player Hernan Perez to a minor-league deal. The 32-year-old hasn't appeared in the big leagues since the 2021 season with the Washington Nationals but has rather spent the last two seasons playing in Korea and Mexico. Originally signed out of Venezuela by the Tigers, Perez received significant playing time with the Brewers from 2016-2019, even hitting 13 home runs with 34 stolen bases alongside a healthy .272 batting average in a career year in 2016. However, his bat has remained below the league average throughout his MLB career, largely due to a tiny 4.1% BB%. Across 651 big-league games played, Perez has hit .250 with 45 HR and 69 SB across 1,846 trips to the plate.

Hernan Perez Agrees With Twins

Free-agent infielder/outfielder Hernan Perez reached an agreement with the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, according to sources. The deal is a minor-league pact. Perez will join the Twins in spring training once he's done playing for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. The 31-year-old utility man last saw action in the major leagues with the Washington Nationals in 2021, going 1-for-19 with two walks and 10 strikeouts in only 10 games. He played in only three games for the Chicago Cubs in the shortened 2020 campaign. Perez's last meaningful season in the bigs was in 2019 with the Milwaukee Brewers. He'll serve as organizational depth for the Twins if he sticks around in 2023.

Cubs Add Hernan Perez To Player Pool

The Chicago Cubs have added infielder Hernan Perez to their player pool. Perez was signed to a minor league deal this offseason after struggling last season with the Milwaukee Brewers. Perez adds versatility to the Cubs and will compete for one of their final bench spots. For now, Perez can be left on the waiver wire in all formats.

Hernan Perez Takes Over Second Base

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Hernan Perez is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Keston Hiura (hamstring) was placed on the injured list on Saturday, so the Brewers are seeking help at second base. It seems that Travis Shaw and Perez are going to split the playing time there until Hiura is back. Perez is batting second and playing second base versus lefty Cole Hamels on Saturday. He's been average with the bat and doesn't have much DFS appeal.

Hernan Perez Outrighted to Triple-A

Milwaukee Brewers infielder/outfielder Hernan Perez, who was designated for assignment on June 28, cleared waivers Wednesday and was sent to Triple-A San Antonio. Perez showed promise in 2016 with a .272 batting average, 13 home runs, and 34 stolen bases, but has not approached similar value since and was hitting just .235/.277/.383 in 160 plate appearances this season. He wasn't fantasy relevant before the DFA, which was only confirmed by the lack of interest he drew on waivers, and is less so now.

Orlando Arcia Sits On Tuesday, Hernan Perez To Start

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Orlando Arcia will take a seat on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels. In his place, Hernan Perez will draw the start at short and bat ninth against Matt Harvey. Arcia has been a steady producer at the bottom of the Brewers lineup, slugging two home runs, driving in six and scoring five more. Tuesday will mark Perez's second start at shortstop this season. He's batting .308 with a solo home run serving as his only run batted in. This is a dangerous Brewers lineup that is fully capable of taking advantage of an aging Harvey. For the late slate in DFS, Perez has a solid mix of speed and power potential at the bottom of the lineup.

Hernan Perez Underwent Offseason Surgery

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Hernan Perez (hand, wrist) underwent surgery after the season to have the pisiform bone removed from his hand/wrist. He is good to go for the start of spring training and should be ready for the regular season. Perez will have a chance to win regular playing time at second base this spring, but he'll be competing with Cory Spangenberg and Tyler Saladino. He could wind up being a super-utility player once again, which makes it difficult to project his playing time. Perez, 28 in March, hit .253/.290/.386 with nine home runs, 29 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 316 at-bats last season. He had 27 combined homers the previous two seasons and even stole 34 bags in 2016, but he's more of an NL-only commodity because of his uncertain playing time.

Hernan Perez Avoids Arbitration

The Milwaukee Brewers and infielder Hernan Perez avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.5 million deal. Perez hit .253/.290/.386 with nine home runs, 29 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 316 at-bats with the Brew Crew in 2018. He could have a bigger role in 2019 as the starting second baseman if the Brewers elect to let Jonathan Schoop go or trade him.

Hernan Perez Starting At Second Base Wednesday

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Hernan Perez is starting at second base and is hitting fifth against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series on Wednesday. Both Travis Shaw and Jonathan Schoop will start on the bench. Perez is 0-for-6 with an RBI and strikeout in his career against the southpaw, and he'll be a deep DFS sleeper for the slate on Wednesday.

Hernan Perez Starting At Shortstop In Game 2

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Hernan Perez gets the nod at shortstop over Orlando Arcia and will hit sixth against Rockies starter Tyler Anderson in Game 2 of the National League Division Series on Friday. Perez brings more offense than Arcia does, and he hit much better against lefties this year than righties with a .277 average and six of his nine home runs. Perez will be a sleeper in DFS games Friday.
