Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jake Thompson has been traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for cash considerations. The Phillies designated Thompson for assignment last Friday to make room for newly acquired Justin Bour. The Brewers have optioned Thompson to Triple-A Colorado Springs, so he won't be with the MLB team right away. Thompson should be with the Brewers when rosters expand in September, but he's not going to be an option for fantasy leagues.
Hoby Milner Recalled, Jake Thompson Available For Doubleheader
In preparation for their doubleheader on Monday against the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies recalled relief pitcher Hoby Milner from Triple-A. They also appointed pitcher Jake Thompson as their 26th man for the doubleheader. Both Milner and Thompson have struggled during their brief stints in the majors, so this is probably pure depth move by the Phillies. Neither pitcher should be owned in standard formats at this point.
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jake Thompson has been sent down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The Phillies have not yet announced who will be taking Thompson's place on the roster. Thompson was called up on Sunday and threw three innings in relief. He's obviously well off the fantasy radar.
Prior to Thursdays home game against the San Francisco Giants, the Philadelphia Phillies made a move that altered their bullpen. Left-hander Zac Curtis was demoted in favor of Jake Thompson, leaving the club without a left-handed pitcher. The Phillies have long moved into somewhat of an exclusive right-handed pitching staff, having last had a southpaw starting pitcher in 2016. The 25-year-old Curtis made four appearances with the big league club, surrendering two runs across five innings of work. Thompson, meanwhile, had allowed seven runs in 8 2/3 innings of work before his demotion at the end of last month.
As has been the usual case since he became a starter back in July, Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jake Thompson only went five innings Tuesday, but he managed to pick up a victory. Taking on the NL East division champion Washington Nationals, the 23-year-old allowed just four hits and one run in his five innings of work, walking two and striking out five as well. This was Thompson's third consecutive start of at least five innings with one run or less surrendered. While his last time out his start resulted in a no-decision, this time his offense did enough to earn him a win.
Much like last season, Jake Thompson has lacked distance this season, but has managed to put in quality in his abbreviated outings. Today, the 23-year-old allowed just one run on three hits and three walks, striking out three along the way. The start, which saw him labor to the tune of 91 pitches through his five innings of work, would result in a no-decision, as the affair turned out to be a back and forth game. Ultimately, the Phillies prevailed, 7-5, after nine runs were scored between both teams in the seventh and eighth innings. Thompson, meanwhile, maintains his 2-2 record this season, while his ERA falls to 4.14 on the year.
Jake Thompson's roller coaster 2017 season continues today as he was promoted from the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs once again in order to start against Miami. The 23-year-old has been moved five times between Triple-A and the major leagues this season, making three relief appearances and two starts for the Phillies along the way. Thompson has had one good start and a bad one, tossing five shutout innings in his first start before allowing seven runs in five his last time out. Following Nick Pivetta's demotion it became clear that the Phillies would need another starter at some point. To make room for Thompson, the club demoted reliever Ricardo Pinto to Triple-A. Thompson has struggled mightily in Lehigh Valley this season, going 5-13 with a 5.34 ERA.
After a solid first start for the Philadelphia Phillies his last time out, Jake Thompson could not keep his team in the game as he took the loss in Anaheim against the Angels tonight. The 23-year-old had a relatively clean first two innings before running into disaster in the third frame. An error from second baseman Cesar Hernandez unleashed a seven-run inning, as the Halos hit three home runs. Thompson wouldn't allow another hit in his final two innings of work, but the damage was clearly done, as the Angels won, 7-0. His record fell to 1-1 on the season, while his ERA climbed up to 4.20. The right-hander's next start is scheduled for next Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves.
