Jared Hughes Remains Absent From Mets Camp

Recently signed New York Mets relief pitcher Jared Hughes, 35, has yet to appear in Mets' camp. The Mets have not provided any reason for Hughes' absence. Hughes posted a 4.04 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, one save, and 54 strikeouts in 71 1/3 innings for the Reds and Phillies in 2019. Hughes will likely serve in middle relief for the Mets this season, provided he is healthy and ready to go by Opening Day. He is not on the fantasy radar for the condensed 60-game season.

Jared Hughes Earns Third Win Of Season Monday

Cincinnati Reds reliever Jared Hughes picked up his third win of the season in Monday's 2-1 game against the Cardinals. Hughes entered the ninth inning down 1-0 and pitched a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout. A Reds' rally in the bottom of the inning gave the team, and Hughes the win. He is now 3-3 on the season with nine holds and six saves to go with a glistening 1.56 ERA in 52 innings pitched. Hughes is a worthwhile stash at this point given his performance and talks of closer Raisel Iglesias possibly getting traded.

Jared Hughes Earns Sixth Save Of Season Wednesday

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Jared Hughes earned his sixth save of the season on Wednesday against the White Sox. Hughes entered the game with a two-run lead and one out in the eighth inning and proceeded to pitch 1 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. Hughes was merely filling in for closer Raisel Iglesias, who had pitched in the past three games, but he has been a serviceable fantasy option in his own right, posting a 1.37 ERA with two wins, two saves, and eight holds in 46 IP. With Iglesias' name floating around the trade market, Hughes' fantasy value could go up if Iglesias were to get dealt and Hughes were to stay in Cincinnati as the closer.

Jared Hughes Gets The Save Thursday

Cincinnati Reds reliever Jared Hughes picked up a four-out save against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. Hughes worked out of a jam in the eighth inning and wound up closing out a 6-2 win for the Reds. Raisel Iglesias' fantasy owners have no reason to be concerned, as it was a four-run game by the time the ninth inning came around. Hughes did a nice job closing games when Iglesias was on the disabled list earlier, but he now only has value in saves and holds leagues. On the season, Hughes has a 1.36 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, five saves and seven holds.

Jared Hughes Earns Fourth Save Of Season

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Jared Hughes earned his fourth save of the season on Sunday against the Cardinals. Hughes came on to start the eighth inning and pitched two innings, allowing no runs on no hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Interim manager Jim Riggleman said that he did not deploy closer Raisel Iglesias because he wanted to give him a day to rest after pitching in three straight games, per MLB.com's Mark Sheldon. Iglesias has the closer role on lockdown, but Hughes still has fantasy relevance, posting a 1.02 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP with two wins, four saves, and four holds in 35 1/3 innings pitched. He is worth a look in deep daily leagues and also in deeper categories leagues.

Jared Hughes Performs Escape Act To Pick Up Third Save

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Jared Hughes pitched an exciting ninth inning to pick up his third save of the season on Saturday in a 6-5 win over the Rockies. Hughes started the game up a run in the bottom of the ninth and proceeded to quickly load the bases with two hits and a walk. He then got a ground ball force out at home followed by a double play to end the game thanks to a stellar defensive play by Scooter Gennett. While this one could have easily been Hughes' first blown save of the season, the righty has now picked up two saves since Raisel Iglesias landed on the DL with a left biceps injury. Hughes appears to be the interim closer in Cincinnati while Iglesias is out, but that role could be brief, as Iglesias is not expected to miss much more time.

Jared Hughes Earns Save On Thursday

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Jared Hughes picked up his second save of the season on Thursday in a 5-4 win against the Pirates. Hughes entered the game up by a run with one out in the ninth and the bases empty, recording the final two outs with no walks or strikeouts. Reliever Amir Garrett started the ninth inning with the Reds up by three, but proceeded to give up a single and a two-run home run before Hughes replaced him. The Reds closing situation has been up in the air since Raisel Iglesias was placed on the 10-day DL with a left biceps injury. While interim manager Jim Riggleman said that five different relievers could see time in save situations, it appears that Hughes would be the guy to pick up on waivers if fantasy players were to speculate on Reds saves while Iglesias is out.

Jared Hughes Pitches In Ninth Inning On Wednesday

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Jared Hughes pitched in the ninth inning of an extra-innings loss on Wednesday against the Pirates. Hughes entered with the game tied 4-4, giving up a single with no walks and no strikeouts. Interim manager Jim Riggleman said that Hughes was one of five Reds relievers that could see save opportunities with closer Raisel Iglesias (biceps) heading to the 10-day DL. Hughes does not possess the strikeout potential teams look for in a closer (6.91 K/9) but has posted a solid 1.26 ERA in 28 2/3 innings pitched this season. Hughes was the first Reds reliever to see time in the ninth inning since Iglesias' injury, but fantasy players may need some help from the tea leaves to decipher the Reds closer situation for the near future.

Jared Hughes Signs With Reds

Free-agent relief pitcher Jared Hughes has signed a two-year deal with a club option with the Cincinnati Reds. Hughes will remain in the National League Central where he has spent his entire seven-year career. Last year with the Brewers he had a 3.07 ERA in 67 games. Throughout his career he sports a 2.85 career ERA. With relievers making more than ever, it seems like the Reds may have gotten themselves a bargain getting Hughes for a total of $4.5 million.

Jared Hughes Non-Tendered By Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers have non-tendered pitcher Jared Hughes. Hughes pitched to a 3.02 ERA in 67 games for the Brewers this past season, but the club was not willing to go to arbitration with him. Hughes spent the first six years of his career with the Pirates and holds a career 2.85 ERA in seven seasons. He should have no problem finding a job, as plenty of teams are looking for bullpen arms. Brewers general manager David Stearn said he is willing to bring Hughes back, but did not want to go to arbitration with him.
