The Toronto Blue Jays claimed outfielder Jarrod Dyson off waivers from the Kansas City Royals on Friday, according to sources. Dyson isn't an everyday player and has only been useful in much deeper leagues because of his speed (eight stolen bases this year). He's never been much of a hitter, has very little pop (21 career home runs in 12 MLB seasons) and is hitting just .221/.256/.311 with no homers and 10 RBI in his 77 games in 2021 with the Royals. Dyson may get a start here or there, but he will mostly serve as bench depth and as a late-inning pinch-running option for Toronto the rest of the year.
The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent outfielder Jarrod Dyson to a one-year, $1.5 million deal on Tuesday. The 36-year-old spent his first seven MLB seasons with the Royals, hitting .260 with a .325 on-base percentage and 176 stolen bases in 550 games. He also scored the World Series-clinching run in extra innings against the Mets in 2015. Dyson appeared in 32 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox in the shortened 2020 season, hitting .180/.231/.180 with no homers, five RBI and six stolen bases in 66 plate appearances. The 36-year-old is expected to provide veteran leadership for a rebuilding KC club while also likely serving as the team's fourth outfielder behind Andrew Benintendi, Michael A. Taylor and Whit Merrifield. He can also provide some speed off the bench in a pinch.
The Chicago White Sox have acquired outfielder Jarrod Dyson from the Pirates for a international bonus pool slot. The speedy outfielder is hitting a weak .157 with four stolen bases on the season. Dyson is likely to be utilized as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement with his new club and can be avoided in all formats.
Jarrod Dyson Officially A Pirate, Jameson Taillon to 60-Day IL
Free-agent outfielder Jarrod Dyson has cleared his physical and has officially signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates. To make room on the 40-man roster for Dyson, the Pirates have moved pitcher Jameson Taillon to the 60-day injured list. The Pirates gain a top-10 active base-stealer in Dyson, which includes an 85% success rate (first among all active players with 100+ attempts). It remains to be seen whether the Pirates will use him as a utility option off the bench or if he will see some consistent time in the outfield. If he consistently starts, his base-stealing upside certainly makes him an interesting late-round addition.
Free-agent outfielderJarrod Dyson has reportedly reached an agreement with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The agreement is still pending a physical, but if all goes well, Dyson should be able to join the team for Grapefruit League action very soon. Dyson had 30 stolen bases and batted .230 last year with the Diamondbacks. His base-stealing upside is always nice for DFS purposes, but it'll likely be a couple weeks until his role on the Pirates is more solidified and actual expectations can be established.
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jarrod Dyson, who missed two straight starts and three out of four with performance issues, is back in the lineup Thursday. But he's only batting eighth, a far cry from the leadoff spot he often occupied throughout the first five months of the season. Not surprisingly, he is someone to avoid in the early DFS slate, with a slash line all the way down to .237/.317/.332. Rookie outfielder Josh Rojas, batting second, is the better budget-saving option in the Arizona lineup.
After entering Tuesday 0-for-13 over his last three games, Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jarrod Dyson went 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in the win against Texas. Dyson also picked up his 21st steal of the season, moving him into a tie for fourth in the majors and one steal behind National League leader Christian Yelich. While he's been frustrating for owners with a .229 average over the last month and a half, his speed still makes him a valuable fantasy asset especially in NL-only leagues.
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jarrod Dyson (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is a routine day off for the veteran speedster against the left-handed starter. Ketel Marte will draw the start in center field and bat second versus lefty Clayton Kershaw. Marte is hitting over .500 in his last seven games, so it's hard to bench him, even against an elite pitcher like Kershaw.
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jarrod Dyson led off for the third time in four games on Thursday and delivered two hits with a home run, two runs and two RBI. It was his fifth home run of the season. Dyson's been a great contributor of stolen bases this season with 14 on the year. He's only sitting about one game per week right now and is hitting .316 against lefties, which is extremely encouraging after he struggled mightily against left-handed pitchers the past two years. Don't expect many more home runs going forward, but his stolen bases and respectable .263 average with great run scoring potential make him a must-start in all category and rotisserie leagues.
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jarrod Dyson (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The speedy outfielder will get a routine day off here. Ketel Marte will bat leadoff and cover center field versus righty Zach Eflin. Marte is a strong DFS option and will likely be popular in many contests.
