Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jefry Marte is starting on Sunday, batting cleanup. He is taking the spot of Jose Fernandez, who is sitting against the left-handed Brett Anderson. Marte has not been particularly good this year, but he has shown power against left-handers and is hitting behind Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. He's not a bad first base option in DFS.
Jefry Marte Reinstated from DL, Jabari Blash Optioned
The Los Angeles Angels have reinstated Jefry Marte (wrist) from the disabled list. They optioned outfielder Jabari Blash to make room. Marte had been splitting time at first and third base before going down with an injury. He is hitting .262 with three home runs on the season. Unless he acquires a full-time role, he is best suited on the waiver wire in all mixed formats.
Los Angeles Angels infielder Jefry Marte (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment on Friday with High-A Inland Empire. Marte was placed on the disabled list back on June 12, but looks to be nearing a return sometime next week. Marte will likely see a fair amount of time at third base with Zack Cozart (shoulder) out for the season. This could cut into David Fletcher's playing time. Marte is hitting .262 with three home runs and 10 RBI on the year.
The Los Angeles Angels have placed first baseman Jefry Marte (wrist) on the disabled list. They have recalled middle infielder David Fletcher, who will be making his first trip to the big leagues. With Marte out, Jose Fernandez has a clear path to playing time at first base. Fernandez may be worth a look in deeper leagues temporarily. Fletcher is likely just middle infield depth, and won't play enough to garner attention in most fantasy formats.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jefry Marte exited Monday's game with a left wrist contusion. He is day-to-day for now. If he were to miss any time, 30-year-old Jose Miguel Fernandez would likely see everyday playing time at first base. Albert Pujols is the full-time designated hitter with Shohei Ohtani out, and Luis Valbuena is playing third base as long as Zack Cozart is covering shortstop for Andrelton Simmons. Fernandez could be worth a look in deeper formats.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jefry Marte is in the lineup on Monday, hitting sixth and starting at first base. With Shohei Ohtani out for the immediate future, Marte could see an uptick in playing time while veteran Albert Pujols slides over to designated hitter. The Angels have Marte, Jose Fernandez and Luis Valbuena who can all split time at first base. Marte is hitting .265 with three home runs on the year and is worth a look in AL-only formats if he starts getting consistent starts.
The Los Angeles Angels have reassigned infielders Kaleb Cowart and David Fletcher to minor league camp, which makes it appear that 1B/3B Jefry Marte has made the big league roster. Marte hit .173 with four home runs and one steal last season, and will hold a bench role behind Luis Valbuena, Zack Cozart, Albert Pujols and occasionally Shohei Ohtani. As such, Marte will only get sporadic playing time and is unlikely to have a fantasy impact.
The Angels recalled first baseman/third baseman Jefry Marte Thursday to take the place of recently demoted starter Troy Scribner. Marte is in the lineup on Thursday, batting sixth and playing third. The Angels are facing left-hander James Paxton and likely wanted to bench left-handed hitting Luis Valbuena, who has been filling in at third base for the injured Yunel Escobar. Marte will likely be with the club until they need another fifth starter, but will only see playing time against left-handers. He is not worth a roster spot in any fantasy format.
Jefry Marte Draws Start, Luis Valbuena Benched Against LHP
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Luis Valbuena is out of the lineup tonight against the left-handed Jaime Garcia. Infielder Jefry Marte will take his place, batting fourth and playing first base. Valbuena is expected to sit against left-handers the majority of the time this season, as only seven of his 85 at-bats this year have come against lefties. Valbuena has struggled at the plate lately, hitting only .130/.245/.217 over his last 13 games. Marte has not looked much better, hitting .111/.360/.278 over his last nine games, only garnering 18 at-bats in that time. Neither player is worth a roster spot except in very deep formats.
C.J. Cron Optioned To Triple-A, Jefry Marte To Assume Regular Duty
One day after blasting a grand slam for his first home run of the season, the Los Angeles Angels optioned first baseman C.J. Cron to Triple-A Salt Lake. They recalled infielder Nolan Fontana in his place. Cron has struggled so far this season, hitting .232 with one home run and eight RBI. He was splitting time at first base with Jefry Marte while Luis Valbuena was out with a hamstring injury. However, with third baseman Yunel Escobar going down with a similar injury, Valbuena was forced to slide over to third, clearing up a spot for Cron. It appears the Angels felt differently, however. Marte appears to be in line to play first base while Escobar is out, but his .185 batting average and three home runs leave quite a bit to be desired. Marte can be grabbed in very deep leagues, but his playing time will likely dry up when Escobar returns.
