New York Mets relief pitcher Jenrry Mejia is expected to apply for reinstatement when first eligible, according to the North Jersey Record. Language in the lifetime ban, which Mejia received in 2016 for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs for a third time, allows for him to apply for reinstatement after two years. That date will come around next month, after which he will seek to have the ban reduced. The 28-year-old recently negotiated a $1.729 million contract for the 2018 season, which the Mets will not have to pay unless he is reinstated.
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the New York Mets and relief pitcher Jenrry Mejia avoided arbitration. Mejia will be paid $1.729 million, but he is unlikely to receive any of that due to a suspension. Mejia is currently on the permantly ineligible list after failing a third performance-enhancing drug test in 2016. The Mets will not be eligible to pay his contract unless he receives reinstatement by Major League Baseball.
