Free-agent first baseman Jesus Aguilar signed an undisclosed one-year deal with the Seibu Lions of Nippon Professional Baseball on Wednesday. After 10 years in the big leagues, the 33-year-old veteran Venezuelan right-handed slugger will take his talents to Japan. He was released by the Oakland Athletics in June after hitting a weak .221/.281/.385 with five home runs, two doubles, nine RBI and eight runs scored in 36 games played. Aguilar later played with Triple-A Gwinnett in the Atlanta Braves organization but never made it to the big-league level. The height of his slugging powers came in 2018 when he made the All-Star team for the only time in his career by batting .274 (135-for-492) with a career-high 35 home runs and 108 RBI for the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Atlanta Braves signed free-agent first baseman Jesus Aguilar to a minor-league deal on Tuesday. The Oakland Athletics released Aguilar in early June after he hit just .221 (23-for-104) with two doubles, five home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored in 36 games for them to begin the year. The 32-year-old right-handed slugger will most likely report to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he will serve as organizational first-base depth. As long as Matt Olson remains healthy at the big-league level, the Braves probably won't have much use for Aguilar. He was an All-Star back in 2018 with the Milwaukee Brewers when he hit 35 home runs and drove in 108 runs, but he hasn't come close to producing similar numbers since.
The Oakland Athletics designated first baseman/designated hitter Jesus Aguilar for assignment on Monday, according to sources. Aguilar gets the boot off the team's 40-man roster after hitting .221 (23-for-104) with two doubles, five home runs and nine RBI in 36 games played. He had walked eight times and struck out 31 times in 115 trips to the plate. The 32-year-old veteran slugger could latch on elsewhere, though, as an option against left-handed pitching. Against southpaws so far in 2023, Aguilar hit .280 with four home runs and eight RBI in 50 at-bats. He can continue to go ignored in mixed fantasy leagues, though.
Oakland Athletics first baseman Jesus Aguilar went 2-for-4 with his fifth home run of the season, two RBI, a run scored and a strikeout in the team's 5-4 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. While there isn't much fantasy upside from a counting-stats perspective with A's hitters, Aguilar has been solid in the early going in his first year in Oakland. The 32-year-old veteran Venezuelan slugger is batting .270 (20-for-74) with two doubles, five home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored in 82 plate appearances and 23 games, although he also has 21 strikeouts and only five walks. Aguilar has six multi-hit games in the early going.
Oakland Athletics general manager David Forst said he expects the newly signed Jesus Aguilar to split his time in 2023 at first base and designated hitter in an everyday role, similar to what he was doing last year with the Miami Marlins and Baltimore Orioles. The 32-year-old right-handed slugger spent most of his time with the Fish (113 games) and finished with a .235/.281/.379 slash line, .661 OPS, 16 home runs, 51 RBI, 39 runs scored and a stolen base in 507 plate appearances over 129 combined games. Aguilar still has some pop in his bat, but he'll provide little else while moving to a weak lineup in one of the most pitcher-friendly home ballparks in baseball. He can be avoided in shallow mixed leagues.
The Oakland Athletics have reportedly agreed to a deal with first baseman Jesus Aguilar, per a tweet from FanSided's Robert Murray on Tuesday. Murray tweeted the following: "Free-agent first baseman Jesus Aguilar and the Oakland A's are in agreement on a contract, pending physical, according to a source familiar with the deal. First to report a deal was close: @susanslusser." Aguilar previously split the 2022 season with the Miami Marlins and Baltimore Orioles, hitting .235 with a .281 on-base percentage, 16 home runs, and a stolen base in 507 plate appearances. He'll give the A's another option at first base alongside the likes of Dermis Garcia and Seth Brown.
The Baltimore Orioles reportedly signed veteran first baseman Jesus Aguilar to a minor league deal on Wednesday, per a tweet from MASN's Roch Kubatko. Kubatko also noted in his tweet that Aguilar is joining Baltimore's major league taxi squad on Wednesday, so there's a good chance he'll join the big-league club when rosters expand on Thursday. The 32-year-old previously made 456 plate appearances for the Miami Marlins this season, hitting .236 with a .286 on-base percentage, 15 home runs and a stolen base. He'll provide the O's with some additional depth at both first base and designated hitter.
The Miami Marlins reinstated first baseman/outfielder Garrett Cooper (concussion) from the seven-day concussion injured list on Friday and designated first baseman Jesus Aguilar for assignment in a corresponding move. Cooper is back at first base and is hitting fifth on Friday against Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Tyler Anderson. The 31-year-old should be a regular for Miami down the stretch, and he'll return to a .269/.345/.415 line with seven home runs, 42 RBI and 28 runs scored in his 323 at-bats this year. Aguilar has mostly played every day for the Fish in 2022 and was hitting .236/.286/.388 with 15 long balls, 49 RBI, 37 runs scored and a stolen base in 415 at-bats. The 32-year-old right-handed slugger will be hoping to latch on with a contender before the end of the year.
Miami Marlins first baseman Jesus Aguilar singled and walked in four at-bats on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Besides his stellar 2018, Aguilar has been a pretty mediocre fantasy player, and that's continued in 2022. Over 80 games, he's hitting .248 with a .699 OPS, 11 HRs, 32 runs, 37 RBI, and one stolen base. It's easy to find this skillset on the waiver wire, so if fantasy managers need to open up a roster spot, Aguilar isn't a terrible player to drop.
The Miami Marlins activated first baseman Jesus Aguilar and outfielder Jesus Sanchez from the injured list on Tuesday. Both players landed on the injured list this past Friday due to undisclosed reasons. Both players are included in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Aguilar will be hitting cleanup while Sanchez will be batting sixth. To clear roster spots for the Jesus duo, the Marlins optioned first baseman Lewin Diaz and outfielder Jerar Encarnacion to Triple-A.
