Joaquin Benoit News
Washington Nationals reliever Joaquin Benoit (elbow) continues to rehab his elbow, according to manager Dave Martinez. The Nats signed Benoit in the offseason as bullpen depth, but he began the year on the disabled list. He'll strengthen his elbow but still doesn't have a timetable for his return. He can be safely ignored for fantasy purposes.
Washington Nationals reliever Joaquin Benoit (forearm) won't make the team's active roster to open the season due to a forearm strain. The team signed him in the offseason to give their bullpen depth, but tightness in his back led to the discovery of the strain recently. The Nationals still have a solid bullpen full of guys with closer experience like Sean Doolittle, Ryan Madson and Brandon Kintzler. Benoit can be safely ignored for now.
Free-agent relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit signed with the Washington Nationals on Monday, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN. Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports that it is a one-year guaranteed major league deal worth $1 million. Benoit, now 40 years old, posted a shaky 4.65 ERA in 52 appearances last year between the Pirates and Phillies. He figures to operate in middle relief and will have very minimal fantasy value, if any at all.
