White Sox Designate Justin Anderson For Assignment

The Chicago White Sox have designated right-handed pitcher Justin Anderson for assignment. This transaction will open a roster spot for infield prospect Chase Meidroth, who is expected to make his MLB debut on Friday. Anderson has spent the start of the campaign with the Charlotte Knights and will return there if he goes unclaimed on waivers. Last summer, Anderson logged 53 1/3 innings of work in the major leagues and held a 4.39 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP. He tallied 57 punchouts but held a high 13.6 percent walk rate. Through his first five 2/3 innings of the campaign at Triple-A, Anderson allowed seven hits and gave up five earned runs. He has logged 155 2/3 career innings in the major leagues and could draw interest on waivers as a depth option in the bullpen.

Justin Anderson Signs Minor-League Deal With White Sox

The Chicago White Sox signed free-agent right-hander Justin Anderson to a minor-league deal on Wednesday. Anderson made his big-league debut with the Los Angeles Angels in 2018 but hasn't appeared in the majors since 2019. The 31-year-old reliever wasn't good over three minor-league levels with the Kansas City Royals in 2023, posting a 6.87 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 20 walks and 59 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings over 24 appearances (one start) in the Arizona Complex League and with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha. In 111 outings out of the bullpen with the Angels in 2018 and 2019, Anderson allowed 57 runs (54 earned) while walking 32 and striking out 60 in 47 frames. He'll operate as organizational relief depth for the Pale Hose in 2024.

Justin Anderson To Have Tommy John Surgery

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Justin Anderson (elbow) will have Tommy John surgery next week. An MRI exam revealed a tear in the UCL of Anderson's right elbow. Surgery will be performed on Wednesday by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas, Texas. The right-hander made 111 relief appearances for the Halos over the last two seasons and was 3-0 in 54 outings in 2019 with a 5.55 ERA in 47 total innings. There's a chance we won't see Anderson coming out of the team's bullpen until 2022.

Justin Anderson Nails Down His First Save

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Justin Anderson allowed an earned run, a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in an adventurous ninth inning, nailing down his first save of the season Sunday against the Texas Rangers. He needed 29 pitches, throwing 17 for strikes, while also uncorking a wild pitch. However, he settled down when he needed to and got the save with Hansel Robles and Ty Buttrey unavailable. Robles threw 40 pitches over the past two days, and Buttrey logged 17 pitches in each of the previous two games. Anderson might be called upon for an occasional save if Buttrey and Robles are unavailable, but his fantasy value remains rather minimal.

Red Sox Looking Into Blake Parker, Justin Anderson

The Boston Red Sox already acquired starter Nathan Eovaldi from the Tampa Bay Rays, and it seems like they've turned their attention to the Los Angeles Angels. Specifically, the Angels bullpen. It was previously reported that teams were looking into Angels closer Blake Parker, and it seems the Red Sox are one of them. Parker is having a strong season for the Angels, and it was reported that the Red Sox are looking into fellow relief pitcher Justin Anderson. Anderson has pitched to a 2-2 record and a 3.19 ERA. He does have 46 strikeouts against 23 walks. As always, any time relievers get moved to a contender, their values increase in deep, multiple-reliever leagues, but if traded neither Parker nor Anderson would get close to supplanting Craig Kimbrel.

Justin Anderson Earns Save Thursday

Los Angeles Angels reliever Justin Anderson earned the save on Thursday, his second of the year. Anderson has been one of the few bright spots in the Angels bullpen, pitching to a 3.19 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings. His 12.4 K/9 is excellent, but his 6.8 BB/9 is problematic. Manager Mike Scioscia is unpredictable with his bullpen, so it's hard to put too much stock into this. Still, Anderson isn't a bad option in deeper leagues or leagues that count holds and/or K/9.

Justin Anderson Gets First Crack at Closing for Angels

Los Angeles Angels reliever Justin Anderson was called upon on Monday in LA's first save opportunity since closer Keynan Middleton (elbow) went on the disabled list. Middleton is having a second opinion on his elbow but with a UCL injury, there is a chance he could be out for the rest of the year if he needs Tommy John surgery. Manager Mike Scioscia refuses to name a full-time closer, but it is telling that Anderson is getting the first opportunity. Anderson has a 99 mph fastball and could be a cheap source of saves in deeper leagues. Cam Bedrosian, Jim Johnson and Blake Parker all have a chance to grab saves as well.
