Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera (back) said he will likely be ready to pitch on Wednesday after being unavailable both Monday and Tuesday. His rough outing on Sunday against Boston (three hits and five earned runs in two-thirds of an inning) raised his ERA up to 5.29 on the season. He's the main setup man to closer Alex Colome, but Herrera doesn't warrant much attention in fantasy leagues if he's not getting regular save chances for the Pale Hose.
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera (back) is day-to-day with back spasms, and he played catch on Monday. This doesn't look like an injury that will send Herrera to the injured list, but it's unknown when he'll make his return to game action. The 29-year-old allowed three hits and five earned runs in just two-thirds of an inning on Sunday to raise his ERA to 5.29 on the season in his 17 innings for the Pale Hose. With Alex Colome firmly entrenched as the closer, Herrera doesn't have much fantasy appeal right now.
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera (back) left his appearance in Sunday's game against the Boston Red Sox due to stiffness in his lower back. He is considered day to day. Something was certainly wrong, as he was hammered for five earned runs, three hits and two walks while retiring just two batters in the relief loss as he threw just 12 of his 24 pitches for strikes. Herrera slipped to 0-2 with a 5.29 ERA. When healthy he should mostly be avoided outside of the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues using true relievers.
The Chicago White Sox agreed to a two-year, $18 million deal with free-agent relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera on Monday, according to sources. The deal includes a vesting option for a third year. The 29-year-old reliever had a sharp 2.44 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 38 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings and 17 saves between the Royals and Nationals in 2018. Fourteen of his 17 closures came in KC. Herrera should compete with Jace Fry, Alex Colome and Nate Jones for the ninth-inning job in Chicago, and Herrera will be a low-end fantasy closing target if he wins the job.
The Boston Red Sox may be in need of a closer next year if free-agent Craig Kimbrel doesn't return, and they could look to free-agent reliever Kelvin Herrera (foot). General manager Dave Dombrowski tried to trade for Herrera at the trade deadline last summer. Herrera tore the Lisfranc ligament in his left foot on Aug. 26 and was only just recently cleared for light jogging last week. He's scheduled to travel to D.C. next week for an examination, with the plan to resume baseball activities in January if he hasn't suffered a setback. The veteran reliever had a nice .244 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 17 saves in 48 outings for the Royals and Nationals and has 60 career saves, so he has the experience. If he signs with Boston as their closer, Herrera will have some nice fantasy appeal after the big closing names come off the board.
Washington Nationals relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera (foot) had surgery last Thursday to fix the torn Lisfranc ligament in his left foot. Herrera will miss the rest of the season. He posted a 2.44 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 7.7 K/9 in 48 outings (44 1/3 innings) between the Royals and Nats this year. He also had 17 saves, although only three of them came with Washington. The right-hander wasn't as effective in his 21 games in the National League (4.34 ERA, 1.71 WHIP).
Kelvin Herrera Done For Season, Ryan Madson Back From DL
Washington Nationals relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera (foot) has suffered a torn Lisfranc ligament in his left foot and will miss the rest of the season. Reliever Ryan Madson (back) has been activated from the disabled list and should be the favorite for saves once again until closer Sean Doolittle (foot) returns from the DL. Madson could share save chances with Koda Glover, but you should consider adding Madson if you need saves.
Nationals relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera (foot) was removed from Sunday's game in the ninth inning due to a left foot injury. Herrera is going in for x-rays tonight to determine the severity of this injury and will likely be placed on the disabled list in the coming days. This will be Herrera's second DL stint in August as he just returned from a shoulder injury last week. The Nationals' bullpen takes another huge blow as they are still without Sean Doolittle or Ryan Madson. Koda Glover should be expected to take over as the interim closer until Doolittle returns.
Nationals relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Tuesday. This was followed by a corresponding move sending starting pitcher Tommy Milone to the DL to make room on the roster for Herrera. With Sean Doolittle still shelved and Koda Glover's struggles recently, Herrera is set to assume the role of Nationals closer for the time being. He might be in to pitch a low leverage inning beforehand but should get a few save opportunities until Doolittle comes back.
Washington Nationals relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera (shoulder) could return from the disabled list on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week after throwing a 15-pitch simulated game on Saturday. Manager Dave Martinez was impressed with Herrera. With closer Sean Doolittle and veteran reliever Ryan Madson injured, Herrera could return to the ninth-inning duties over Koda Glover next week. Herrera has a nice 2.53 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 37 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings to go along with 17 saves. If he's out there on your waiver wire and you need saves, consider adding him again.
