Kendrys Morales News
First baseman/designated hitter Kendrys Morales announced his retirement on Friday after a career spanning 13 seasons and seven teams. The 36-year-old hit just .194 with two home runs in 201 plate appearances with the Athletics and Yankees last season, and he was released by New York in July. He defected from Cuba in 2004 to sign a six-year, $3 million deal with the Angels. Morales hit 34 home runs with 108 RBI and a .569 slugging percentage in his first full year in the majors in 2009. He also had stints with the Mariners, Royals, Twins and Blue Jays and will finish his career with 213 home runs, 740 RBI and a .265 batting average.
New York Yankees designated hitter Kendrys Morales has been released after clearing unconditional waivers. Morales was designated for assignment last week and clearly the Yankees were unable to find a suitor for the 36-year-old. He last appeared in a game on June 11 before being placed on the injured list with a calf injury. This might spell the beginning of the end for the former sluggers career, as he was hitting just .194 with two home runs and 12 RBI over 170 at-bats this season. Even if he would get picked up by someone, he could be easily avoided in fantasy leagues.
New York Yankees first baseman Kendrys Morales (calf) has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left calf. Relief pitcher Nestor Cortes Jr. and outfielder Mike Tauchman have been recalled as corresponding moves. Morales was traded to the Yankees during the 2019 season but failed to produce in his limited time with the team, batting just .177 with one home run and five RBI throughout 19 games. The 35-year-old could be avoided in all fantasy formats.
