Kyle Bird Optioned To Triple-A Nashville

The Texas Rangers optioned relief pitcher Kyle Bird to Triple-A Nashville after Sunday's game. The corresponding move is expected to be the activation of third baseman/outfielder Joey Gallo (oblique) from the 10-day injured list. That move is likely coming on Tuesday. Bird did not have a decision while nailing down one save over 6 2/3 innings with 10 walks and five strikeouts in his six relief appearances with the big club, posting a rather poor 6.75 ERA and 2.10 WHIP. Bird, a left-handed reliever, needs a little more seasoning in the minors before he'll be useful from a fantasy perspective.

Zach Granite Promoted, Kyle Bird Back To Minors

The Texas Rangers recalled outfielder Zach Granite from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday, as they needed help with outfielder Shin-Soo Choo getting a scheduled day off and Joey Gallo (wrist) on the mend. Granite didn't get into Wednesday's game in Seattle, and Choo ended up making a pinch-hitting appearance, singling in the eighth inning while collecting two RBI. Granite isn't someone to bother with as far as fantasy is concerned.

Kyle Bird Joins Bullpen, Jeanmar Gomez Designated

The Texas Rangers recalled relief pitcher Kyle Bird from Triple-A Nashville on Monday, and they designated veteran reliever Jeanmar Gomez for assignment. Gomez managed a 1-0 record with a dismal 8.22 ERA and 1.89 WHIP with six walks and 10 strikeouts over 15 1/3 innings across 16 appearances. Bird takes his place in the bullpen, and will give manager Chris Woodward a second left-handed option. He managed a 2.70 ERA with a save across 13 1/3 innings over 11 relief appearances for Nashville this season, and he appeared in five games for the Rangers in 2018.
