D-backs Ink Kyle Garlick, Albert Almora Jr. To Minors Deals
The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed outfielders Kyle Garlick and Albert Almora to minor-league deals. Garlick, 32, has spent the last three seasons with the Minnesota Twins but his production took a major turn for the worse in the 2023 season. Known as a lefty-masher, the righty-swinging Garlick hit just .179 with a 36.7% K% across a small 30-plate-appearance sample size in the 2023 season. He did hover around league average in his previous two seasons, as per wRC+, and has generally hit left-handed pitching well in his career. Almora, 29, didn't appear in the big leagues in the 2023 season as he suffered a shoulder injury late in the 2022 season. He is a career .239 hitter with 33 home runs and seven stolen bases across 600 MLB contests.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Kyle Garlick is in Tuesday's starting lineup versus left-hander Chris Sale and the Boston Red Sox. Garlick had his contract selected from Triple-A recently and while he's made just four trips to the plate since, one of those plate appearances resulted in a home run. Unsurprisingly, the homer came off a left-handed pitcher as Garlick has made his big-league living mashing southpaw pitching. The 31-year-old has crushed lefties to the tune of a massive .299 isolated power alongside an .853 OPS, figures that are astronomically superior to his work against righties. He always makes sense as a streaming option against a lefty while he's yet to face Sale in his career.
The Minnesota Twins called up outfielder Kyle Garlick from Triple-A St. Paul to take shortstop Kyle Farmer's (jaw) spot on the roster. The Twins also moved outfielder Gilberto Celestino (thumb) to the 60-day injured list. Garlick, a right-handed hitter, could see some playing time in Minnesota's outfield against left-handed pitchers, but he shouldn't be on the radar of those in mixed fantasy leagues. The 31-year-old has a career slash line of just .229/.281/.439 with a .720 OPS, 17 home runs and 37 RBI in 144 games played over his four major-league seasons. Before the call-up, Garlick had two home runs in the minor leagues.
The Minnesota Twins have designated outfielder Kyle Garlick for assignment on Wednesday. Garlick appeared in 66 games for the team during the 2022 season, logging 162 plate appearances for the American League Central club. In those 162 plate appearances, the outfielder hit .233 with a .284 on-base percentage and nine home runs while adding 23 runs scored and 18 RBI. As has been the case for much of his career, Garlick was much more productive against left-handed pitching, with an .805 OPS against left-handers compared to just a .631 OPS against right-handed pitching.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Kyle Garlick (rib) left Monday's 5-3 win over the Tigers early with rib inflammation, per Twins writer Betsy Helfand. Garlick will undergo an MRI as the team continues to assess him. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout prior to exiting the game. The 30-year-old has been a useful fantasy option in a limited sample size, slashing .257/.319/.514 with eight home runs and 18 RBI in 116 plate appearances. Fantasy managers should wait to hear more, but they should take a look at their waiver wires now in the event that Garlick has to miss time with his injury.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Kyle Garlick (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Garlick went 3-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI on Friday night against Toronto, but he also left the game early with a mild left hamstring strain and won't play on Saturday. After his two-homer game, the 30-year-old is now slashing .250/.324/.567 with an .890 OPS, six home runs, 14 RBI and 11 runs scored in 68 plate appearances over 28 games for Minnesota. With Garlick out on Saturday, Nick Gordon is in left field and is batting sixth, while Mark Contreras starts in center field while hitting seventh against Jays right-hander Jose Berrios.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Kyle Garlick (hamstring) was unable to get through Friday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. However, Garlick managed to go 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs and three RBI before exiting the game. The organization is calling the issue a mild hamstring strain, so Garlick could end up missing time. There's a good chance Garlick sits out a few games, but could end up heading to the injured list.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Kyle Garlick (calf) is likely to be activated from the injured list on Monday ahead of the team's series opener against the Oakland Athletics. Garlick began a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul on Friday and was expected to play again on Sunday. The 30-year-old has been on the shelf since May 2, but he should rejoin the Twins this week, and it's possible he's back in the lineup as soon as Monday against A's left-hander Zach Logue. In 13 games for the Twins this year, Garlick is hitting .238 (5-for-21) with three home runs, six RBI and six runs scored.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Kyle Garlick (calf) was removed in the third inning of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays due to right calf tightness. By the sound of it, a stint on the injured list could be coming soon. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli stated after the game that Garlick's calf injury was not "the most minor of occurrences." The 30-year-old has been almost exclusively used as a situational pinch-hitter this year, mostly against lefties. Over 26 plate appearances, he's slashing .238/.385/.667 with three home runs.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Kyle Garlick (hernia) will undergo surgery to fix his sports hernia, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. Garlick was pulled off his rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul because he was still experiencing issues. The Twins haven't given a timetable for his return, but there's a good chance we won't see him again in Minnesota this year. The 29-year-old went just 23-for-99 (.232) with five home runs and 10 RBI in 36 games before his injury, and he's a .225 career hitter with a .279 on-base percentage and .722 OPS with eight home runs and 19 RBI in 78 career games in three seasons with the Twins. Garlick can be left to the waiver wire in the vast majority of redraft leagues.
