Landen Roupp Unlikely To Return In 2025

SF Chronicle's Susan Slusser reported on Monday that San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp (knee) is unlikely to pitch again for the team this season. Roupp was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to August 21 with left knee inflammation and the team does not want to rush him back. The 26-year-old pitched out of the bullpen for the Giants in 2024 but emerged as a viable streaming starter for fantasy this season, going 7-7 with a 3.80 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and a 21.4% strikeout rate in 22 starts and 106 2/3 innings pitched. Roupp has things to improve on, but fantasy managers will have to wait until next season before they check back in on him.

Landen Roupp to Miss Four Weeks

San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (knee) will miss four weeks after a second opinion confirmed he has a bone bruise in his left knee. Roupp suffered the injury in his most recent start, Aug. 20 against the San Diego Padres, when he had to be carted off the field. With the Giants at 64-68 and likely out of playoff contention, Roupp may not make it back this season. Regardless, it's a relief for Roupp and the Giants that his injury isn't serious enough to affect his status for the 2026 campaign. The 26-year-old has made 22 starts this season and gone 7-7 with a 3.80 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and 102:45 K:BB in 106 2/3 innings.

Landen Roupp Going on 15-Day Injured List With Sprained Knee

The San Francisco Giants will place right-hander Landen Roupp (knee) on the 15-day injured list with a sprained left knee, manager Bob Melvin announced. Roupp suffered the injury during an 8-1 loss to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. He had to be carted off the field after twisting his left knee while trying to get out of the way of a comebacker that struck him on the right leg. Roupp still needs to undergo an MRI, and depending on the diagnosis, he could miss more than two weeks and potentially the rest of the season. The 26-year-old has only made two starts since he returned from a three-week stay on the IL with elbow inflammation on Aug. 15. Roupp has gone 7-7 with a 3.80 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 102:45 K:BB over 22 starts and 106 2/3 innings this season.

Landen Roupp Carted Off With Apparent Knee Injury

San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (knee) was carted off the field on Wednesday against the San Diego Padres with an apparent injury to his left knee. Roupp took a line drive off the right leg from Ramon Laureano in the bottom of the third inning, and he twisted his left knee awkwardly while trying to get out of the way. The Giants replaced Roupp with left-hander Joey Lucchesi. Wednesday's start was Roupp's second since he spent the last week of July and the first half of August on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation. Although the 26-year-old yielded five earned runs on five hits and two walks in 2 1/3 innings against the Padres, he has been an effective part of San Francisco's rotation this season. Roupp has made 22 starts and gone 7-6 with a 3.80 ERA and 102:45 K:BB in 106 2/3 innings.

Landen Roupp to Start Friday, Rejoins Giants Rotation

San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (elbow) is set to make his first start off the 15-day injured list this Friday against the Rays to open the weekend series. Roupp had been sidelined since July 23 with right elbow inflammation but now has a firm return date. The 26-year-old has put together a solid season with a 3.11 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 95 strikeouts over 20 starts. He'll slot back into a rotation that already includes Justin Verlander, Robbie Ray, and Logan Webb. As the Giants fight to stay in the playoff hunt, Roupp's return could provide a timely boost.

Landen Roupp to Throw Bullpen Session Wednesday

San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday. After that, the Giants will decide what's next for Roupp, who has been on the 15-day injured list since July 23 with elbow inflammation. Roupp made his first Triple-A rehab start this past Sunday and gave up two runs on three hits with four strikeouts against no walks over a three-inning, 50-pitch span. The 26-year-old has been a bright spot for the Giants this season, having gone 7-6 with a 3.11 ERA and 95:42 K:BB across 20 starts and 101 1/3 innings.

Landen Roupp Tosses Three Innings in Rehab Start

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp (elbow) started for Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, allowing two earned runs on three hits and no walks while striking out four over three innings. This was his first rehab start as he works his way back from elbow inflammation, and he threw 50 pitches in this outing. The 26-year-old's velocity was back to where it was before the injury, so this was a successful step in his recovery overall. He'll likely need at least one more start before he's ready to rejoin the major league rotation, where he'll look to build on his 3.11 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 101 innings.

Landen Roupp Could Make Rehab Start on Sunday

San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Friday and could make a minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, according to Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle. The 26-year-old landed on the injured list on July 25 due to inflammation in his right elbow, but he might only require one or two rehab starts before the Giants return him to their starting rotation. The former 12th-rounder in 2021 should have a spot waiting for him in San Fran's rotation given the fact that he has pitched very well in 2025 with a 3.11 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 95 strikeouts and 42 walks in 101 1/3 inning pitched over 20 starts. Roupp's walk rate isn't ideal, but his sinker-curveball combination and ground-ball tendencies are a perfect combination at pitcher-friendly Oracle Park.

Landen Roupp Throws Off Flat Ground

San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (elbow) threw 35 pitches off flat ground on Tuesday and is expected to continue throwing at the team's spring training complex in Arizona during the club's six-game road trip, according to Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle. Right-elbow inflammation landed Roupp on the 15-day injured list late last week, but if he continues to progress, he could come off the IL in early August to rejoin San Fran's starting rotation. The 26-year-old former 12th-round pick in 2021 should have a spot waiting for him in the Giants' rotation when he's ready to return, as he was looking good with a 3.11 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 95:42 K:BB in 101 1/3 innings over 20 starts in just his second MLB season. Roupp had given up two earned runs or less in six straight starts before getting injured.

Landen Roupp Heading to Injured List

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday. Roupp reportedly felt discomfort in his elbow during Tuesday's outing against the Atlanta Braves. As a result, Roupp will miss the next two weeks, but shouldn't require a lengthy stint on the IL. Giants manager Bob Melvin said Roupp isn't dealing with any structural damage and should only miss two starts. In a corresponding move, right-hander Tristan Beck has been recalled from Triple-A. It's unclear how the Giants plan to fill the vacant spot in the rotation. There's a decent chance the Giants go with a bullpen game until Roupp is ready to return.
