Landen Roupp's Breakout Case Is Getting Harder to Ignore

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp followed eight innings of one-run ball against Toronto with seven scoreless at Seattle on Friday, July 17. He has allowed one earned run across 15 innings, though the two strikeouts against the Mariners keep the run from looking spotless. Still, the case is not built on two box scores. Roupp owns a 3.38 xERA beneath his 3.98 ERA, and hitters have managed just a 28.8% hard-hit rate and 3.9% barrel rate against him. His curveball remains nasty, with a 34.6% whiff rate, .174 xBA, and .219 xSLG. The control can unravel. Arizona chased him after 2 2/3 innings on June 30, when he walked six and allowed six runs. That outing is the risk. The contact profile is the reason to buy into the rise, and Roupp looks like a useful second-half arm rather than a two-start mirage.

Is Landen Roupp Still Worth Targeting on the Waiver Wire Despite Recent Struggles?

Across 74 1/3 innings (14 starts) in 2026, San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp has recorded a 5-7 record with a 4.24 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 82 strikeouts. After a red-hot start to the season, Roupp has cooled off considerably in June. Across 14 1/3 innings (three starts) this month, the 27-year-old has allowed 10 walks and 13 earned runs. The lack of command is a concern for Roupp, as his walk rate is now up to 10.2% on the year. However, there's still reason to believe Roupp will bounce back from this current rough stretch. He's struck out a career-best 26.2% of the batters he's faced so far this season. Roupp also does a great job of limiting home runs (0.48 HR/9) because of his stellar ground ball rate (49.2%). In leagues where he may have been dropped due to his recent struggles, Roupp could be worthy of a buy-low waiver wire add ahead of his next scheduled start against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.

Landen Roupp on Track to Start on Saturday Against Cubs

San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (back) threw a bullpen session of around 30 pitches on Thursday morning and said he felt good after he dealt with back discomfort in his last outing on Monday in Milwaukee against the Brewers, according to Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News. Roupp said he is on track to make his next start, which would be on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs. He was not himself earlier this week in Milwaukee, surrendering a season-high eight earned runs on eight hits while walking five and striking out four in four innings of work. In May, Roupp had at least seven strikeouts in three of his five starts during the month, and he's now 5-6 on the year with a 4.22 ERA (2.82 FIP) and 1.31 WHIP with 72 strikeouts and 27 walks in 64 innings over his 12 starts in his third year in San Fran. The 27-year-old has pitched better than his surface stats suggest, but he'll be pretty risky in starting fantasy lineups this weekend against a Cubs team that ranks eighth in baseball in OPS (.720).

Is Landen Roupp's Strong Start for Real?

San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp has become a popular waiver-wire pickup because of his strong start in his third year in the big leagues, but can he keep it up, or should fantasy managers sell high on him? Roupp enters a tough matchup on Thursday night on the road against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers and is currently 5-3 with a career-best 3.09 ERA (2.51 FIP) and 1.09 WHIP with 51 strikeouts and 19 walks in 43 2/3 innings across his first eight starts of 2026. With an expected ERA of 2.55 and an xwOBA of .255, the 27-year-old's underlying metrics point to his early-season numbers being sustainable going forward. Roupp also ranks in the 98th percentile in hard-hit rate, the 86th percentile in strikeout rate, although he sits in the 31st percentile in walk rate. The former 12th-rounder in 2021 has been great at limiting hard contact and keeping the ball in the yard -- he leads the league with a 0.2 HR/9 mark. Roupp will be bested on Thursday, but he did limit the Dodgers to one earned run on just one hit with five walks and seven strikeouts in five innings in a win at home back on April 21.

Landen Roupp a Must-Roster Waiver-Wire Target Amidst Hot Start to 2026

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp is off to an excellent start to the 2026 season, as he's posted a 4-1 record with a 2.28 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts across his first five starts (27 2/3 innings). In his two most recent outings combined, Roupp has allowed just two hits and one earned run across 11 innings against the Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers. While the 27-year-old's elevated 10.9% walk rate is less than ideal, he's raised his strikeout rate from 21.4% in 2025 to 28.2% so far this season. Roupp has also yet to allow a home run in 2026 and owns a 50.8% ground-ball rate. Particularly given his pitcher-friendly home environment in San Francisco, Roupp looks like a potential breakout starting pitcher in 2026. In any fantasy league where he's not already rostered, Roupp profiles as a high-priority waiver-wire target.

Landen Roupp Emerging as a Breakout Starting Pitcher

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp is off to an excellent start to the 2026 season, as he's posted a 3-1 record with a 2.38 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts across 22 2/3 innings (four starts). The 27-year-old has boosted his strikeout rate from 21.4% in 2025 to 26.7%, and he's also lowered his walk rate to a career-best 7.8%. Roupp has also yet to allow a home run this season, and owns a 50.9% ground ball rate. While Roupp established himself as a solid streaming option for fantasy managers in 2025, he appears to have taken his game to a new level in 2026. Combined with his pitcher-friendly home park in San Francisco, Roupp offers real upside as a waiver-wire target in any league where he's not already rostered.

Landen Roupp Emerging as an Early-Season Waiver Wire Target

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp has gotten off to a strong start to his 2026 season. Across 16 2/3 innings pitched (three starts), the 27-year-old owns a 2-1 record with a 3.24 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 18 strikeouts. Roupp emerged as a capable option for the Giants in 2025, recording a 3.80 ERA across 106 2/3 innings (22 starts). However, he posted an underwhelming 21.4% strikeout rate and a brutal 1.48 WHIP. Early in 2026, Roupp has upped his strikeout rate to 26.1% and has issued just five walks. If his current strand rate of 57.9% regresses closer to his career mark of 71.6%, Roupp could actually be in line to improve on his current 3.24 ERA. Based on the improvements he has shown so far this season, Roupp could be an intriguing target on the waiver wire for fantasy managers. His next start is scheduled for Thursday in Cincinnati against the Reds.

Landen Roupp Unlikely To Return In 2025

SF Chronicle's Susan Slusser reported on Monday that San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp (knee) is unlikely to pitch again for the team this season. Roupp was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to August 21 with left knee inflammation and the team does not want to rush him back. The 26-year-old pitched out of the bullpen for the Giants in 2024 but emerged as a viable streaming starter for fantasy this season, going 7-7 with a 3.80 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and a 21.4% strikeout rate in 22 starts and 106 2/3 innings pitched. Roupp has things to improve on, but fantasy managers will have to wait until next season before they check back in on him.

Landen Roupp to Miss Four Weeks

San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (knee) will miss four weeks after a second opinion confirmed he has a bone bruise in his left knee. Roupp suffered the injury in his most recent start, Aug. 20 against the San Diego Padres, when he had to be carted off the field. With the Giants at 64-68 and likely out of playoff contention, Roupp may not make it back this season. Regardless, it's a relief for Roupp and the Giants that his injury isn't serious enough to affect his status for the 2026 campaign. The 26-year-old has made 22 starts this season and gone 7-7 with a 3.80 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and 102:45 K:BB in 106 2/3 innings.

Landen Roupp Going on 15-Day Injured List With Sprained Knee

The San Francisco Giants will place right-hander Landen Roupp (knee) on the 15-day injured list with a sprained left knee, manager Bob Melvin announced. Roupp suffered the injury during an 8-1 loss to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. He had to be carted off the field after twisting his left knee while trying to get out of the way of a comebacker that struck him on the right leg. Roupp still needs to undergo an MRI, and depending on the diagnosis, he could miss more than two weeks and potentially the rest of the season. The 26-year-old has only made two starts since he returned from a three-week stay on the IL with elbow inflammation on Aug. 15. Roupp has gone 7-7 with a 3.80 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 102:45 K:BB over 22 starts and 106 2/3 innings this season.
