Lonnie Chisenhall News
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall (calf) remains at home in North Carolina and is not able to exercise. Chisenhall hasn't played all year and obviously isn't making much progress as we near the halfway point of the 2019 season. The 30-year-old also dealt with calf issues in Cleveland in 2018 and played in just 29 games, hitting .321 with a homer and nine RBI. Chisenhall hasn't played in over 82 games in a season since 2016 and probably wouldn't be seeing much playing time in Pittsburgh even if he was active, given the team's strong depth in the outfield.
Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said that outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall (calf) has continued calf soreness and will "take some time here." Chisenhall has been out all year with a fractured right index finger and now the calf issue, and it's concerning since he played in just 29 games last year with the Indians due to calf issues in both legs. There's no timetable for his return at this point. Whenever he does make his season debut for the Bucs, the 30-year-old will be a platoon corner outfielder in Pittsburgh against right-handed pitchers.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall (calf), who is currently away from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Indianapolis due to a personal matter, told the team's trainer that he is still experiencing tightness in his calf. Chisenhall has yet to play this year and there remains no timetable for his return. At best, he'll likely be a platoon option in a corner outfield spot for the Bucs whenever he's able to return. He should only be stashed if you're desperate for outfield depth in NL-only leagues.
