Luke Maile Signs One-Year Extension With Reds

Cincinnati Reds catcher Luke Maile has agreed to a one-year extension with the club that includes a club option for the 2025 season. The veteran backup got into 78 games with the Reds in his first season in Cincinnati in 2023 and hit .235 with six home runs, two stolen bases, and a .699 OPS across 199 plate appearances, palatable numbers for a backup catcher who graded out well defensively behind the plate. The 32-year-old has appeared in 385 career big-league contests and has hit .212 with 19 HR, six SB, and a .603 OPS across 1,096 plate appearances between the Rays, Blue Jays, Brewers, Guardians, and Reds.

Reds Announce Luke Maile Signing

The Cincinnati Reds have signed catcher Luke Maile to a one-year deal, per a tweet from the National League Central franchise on Tuesday. The 31-year-old hit .221 with a .301 on-base percentage and three home runs in 206 plate appearances for the Cleveland Guardians in the 2022 season, appearing in 76 games in the process. He'll give the Reds a veteran backstop to utilize alongside starter Tyler Stephenson during the 2023 campaign.

Luke Maile Sitting Out Thursday

Cleveland Guardians catcher Luke Maile is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Minnesota Twins. With Austin Hedges on the injured list, Maile has become Cleveland's primary backstop, but he'll take a seat after starting each of the last two games. The 31-year-old should only be an option for fantasy managers in desperate need of a warm body at the position in two-catcher leagues, as he's hitting just .179 with no home runs and five RBI in 67 at-bats on the season. Sandy Leon will take over behind the dish and bat eighth on Thursday against Twins right-hander Chris Archer. Leon is a DFS option to avoid. He's only played in two games for Cleveland this year and has gone 0-for-3.

Luke Maile To Begin Rehab Assignment Friday

Cleveland Guardians catcher Luke Maile (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment on Friday with Triple-A Columbus. Maile started the season on the injured list with a hamstring injury but shouldn't be out for much longer, barring a setback on his rehab assignment. The 31-year-old veteran backstop should serve as the backup to Austin Hedges once he's healthy enough to return to the big leagues. Bryan Lavastida is currently backing up Hedges with Maile on the injured list. Maile didn't play at all in 2020 and saw action in just 15 major league games last year for the Milwaukee Brewers, going 9-for-30 with no home runs and three RBI. He has 10 career homers in six major league seasons.

Luke Maile Sidelined With Left Hamstring Strain

Cleveland Guardians catcher Luke Maile has been diagnosed with a left hamstring strain and will miss three to four weeks of game action, according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com. The veteran backstop joined the team with a chance to compete for a roster spot, but this injury represents a major obstacle. Now, the 31-year-old will have to recover from the hamstring strain and will not be ready for Opening Day. Through 15 games with the Brewers last season, he accumulated a .300/.382/.433 slash line, three RBI, three walks, and seven strikeouts.

Luke Maile Signs With Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians agreed to a minor league deal with free-agent catcher Luke Maile on Saturday that will pay him $900,000 if he's in the major leagues. Maile hit .300/.382/.433 with no home runs and three RBI in just 34 plate appearances over 15 games for the Milwaukee Brewers, and he hasn't done much with the bat in parts of six major league seasons with the Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays. The 31-year-old backstop has a career .203/.258/.310 slash line with 10 home runs and 63 RBI in 691 plate appearances over 230 games. Maile will be serving as catching depth for the Guardians alongside Austin Hedges in 2022.

Luke Maile Scratched From Lineup Friday

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Luke Maile (hamstring) was scratched from the Grapefruit League lineup on Friday with left hamstring tightness. Maile is day-to-day. He should be fine in the long run. The 29-year-old backstop hit just .151/.205/.235 with two home runs and nine RBI in 129 plate appearances over 44 games for the Blue Jays in 2019. In five big league seasons, Maile has hit .198/.252/.304 with 10 homers, 60 RBI and four steals in 605 at-bats. Splitting time with Jacob Stallings and John Ryan Murphy in Pittsburgh, Maile isn't even that attractive in two-catcher leagues.

Luke Maile Heading to Paternity List

Fire up the Danny Jansen hype train! Toronto Blue Jays catcher Luke Maile is heading to the paternity list as he awaits the birth of his child. This means Jansen should see starts behind the plate for the next couple of days. While it has been a short sample size for the Jays third-ranked prospect, Jansen has looked good. Through three games he has gone 4-for-10 at the plate with a home run and two RBI. It seems likely that Jansen and Maile will both see time at catcher for the rest of the season, but managers can jump on Jansen in the short-term.

Huge Night For Luke Maile

There might not be a ton of fanfare in the fantasy community for Toronto Blue Jays catcher Luke Maile, but at least for one night, he earned some. On Friday night against the Boston Red Sox, Maile finished 3-for-4 with two home runs (including one off pitcher Chris Sale), two runs scored, four RBI, and a walk. The two home runs were his first of the year, but across 17 games played hes slashing an impressive .339/.418/.542 (.960 OPS) with four doubles, a triple, 12 runs scored, and 14 RBI. Maile is clearly hitting the ball well, but of course, its tough to give him any fantasy consideration with him backing up Russell martin on most days. However, its worth noting that Maile has started 15 of Torontos 39 games thus far (mainly because Martin DHs a bit), thus giving him more playing time than the average backup catcher. If Martin were to miss time, Maile becomes a very intriguing fantasy option.

Russell Martin Out, Luke Maile Draws Another Start

For the sixth time in seven games, the Toronto Blue Jays will start backup catcher Luke Maile. Russell Martin, who returned from a neck injury and went 0-for-4 last night, will again be on the bench. In his five starts in place of Martin, Maile has made the most of his opportunity. He is 6-for-16 with one home run and two RBI. He will slot into the No. 9 spot tonight versus the Oakland Athletics. He makes for a cheap daily play. He should remain on the waiver wire in both AL-only and mixed leagues. Expect more information on Martin, as it is unknown if he is resting due to his recent neck injury or if it is just a standard day off.
