Luke Voit News
Washington Nationals first baseman Luke Voit was scratched from his team's game against the San Diego Padres with back tightness. Voit was replaced in the lineup by Joey Meneses, who is hitting third and playing first base. The 31-year-old Voit will not be in the starting lineup but he is reportedly available as a pinch-hitter on Friday, if needed. Voit is hitting .224 with 16 homers, 44 runs, and 53 RBI in 96 games in 2022.
The San Diego Padres are sending first baseman Luke Voit to the Washington Nationals on Tuesday to finalize the deal involving superstar outfielder Juan Soto and first baseman Josh Bell, according to a source. First baseman Eric Hosmer was originally included in the deal for Soto and Bell, but he exercised his no-trade clause and was later dealt to the Boston Red Sox. Earlier in the day, Passan reported that the Nationals would also be getting left-hander MacKenzie Gore, top outfield prospect Robert Hassel III, shortstop C.J. Abrams, outfielder James Wood and right-hander Jarlin Susana, but it's unknown if those names are still included in the blockbuster swap. The 31-year-old Voit will become Washington's primary first baseman, and he'll lose fantasy value in the move to the last-place Nats. Voit is hitting .225 with 13 homers and 48 RBI in 298 at-bats in 2022.
San Diego Padres designated hitter Luke Voit participated in the offensive onslaught against Joe Ryan and the Minnesota Twins Friday, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Voit now has 13 home runs on the season to go with 38 runs scored and 47 RBI. He's gone deep three times in his last nine games. It's not been a banner season for Voit, but he continues to hit the ball very hard and could go on a tear for fantasy managers at any time.

New York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit utilized a shortened season to make a lengthy statement of his offensive prowess. The 2020 season reinvigorated those that were let down by a 2019 performance that didn't resemble the success he had the year prior. Voit's 22 homers not only led the league, but they were the most of his career. It is true that his Max Exit Velo (111.7 mph), Barrel (13.1%), and Hard Hit (40%) rates were inferior to 2019, but it was the increase in Launch Angle (15.2 degrees) that made difference. Voit also made other improvements at the plate with career-bests in Swinging Strike (13.3%) and Z-Contact (83%) rates. 2021 looks like an opportunity for Voit to reaffirm his place as a premium power bat in the league, assuming he maintains a similar launch angle. To get a power-hitting first baseman that possesses a place in the top third of a dynamic Yankees' lineup, you'll have to call his name near pick 60. Voit will be worth it.
