Martin Prado News
Free-agent third baseman Martin Prado announced his retirement on Wednesday. Prado finished the 2019 season with the Marlins, hitting .233/.265/.294 with two home runs and only 15 RBI in 104 games. The 36-year-old spent 14 years in the majors and was an All-Star back in 2010 with the Braves. He started his career with Atlanta before moving to the Diamondbacks, Yankees and then Marlins. Prado finishes with a .287/.335/.412 slash line, 100 home runs, 609 RBI and 40 stolen bases in his career. He was never much of a power guy, never hitting more than 15 long balls in a single season, but he was consistent as a contact bat and had a solid glove on the infield at multiple positions.
Miami Marlins third baseman Martin Prado has told friends that he will likely retire this offseason. The 36-year-old played in just 104 games in 2019 and managed 94 games in 2017 and 2018 combined due to injuries. He hit a meager .233/.265/.294 with two home runs and 15 RBI for the Fish last season and wasn't even on the fantasy radar in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. In his 14-year career, Prado sports a solid .287 average, 100 home runs, 664 runs scored, 609 RBI and 40 stolen bases in 1,458 games. He was an All-Star back in 2010 with the Braves.
The Miami Marlins placed first baseman Martin Prado (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a right hamstring strain and recalled infielder Yadiel Rivera from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move. Starting pitcher Jose Urena (back) was also moved to the 60-day injured list. Prado was hitting just .239 with a homer and 12 RBI in 155 at-bats and was only worth owning in NL-only formats. Expect Garrett Cooper to see most of the starts at first base moving forward. He's been hot at the dish and warrants a pickup in deep mixed leagues while he's hot. Rivera has a little speed but is unlikely to see many at-bats as a utility infielder.
