Former New York Yankees and New York Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson announced his retirement on Friday after a successful 16-year career. The 38-year-old was a lifetime .249 hitter with 344 home runs and 937 RBI. He began his career with the Tigers and also played for the Blue Jays, Brewers and Marlins. Grandy hit just .183/.281/.356 with 12 home runs and 34 RBI in 138 games with the Marlins in 2019. The three-time All-Star had his best season in 2011 with the Yankees when he hit .262 with 41 long balls, 136 runs scored, 119 RBI and 25 stolen bases to finish fourth in the American League MVP voting.
Miami Marlins outfielder Curtis Granderson went 1-for-4 with a walk during Wednesday's win over the Cardinals, drilling a three-run shot off of St. Louis reliever John Brebbia in the seventh inning. It was a rare semi-efficient outing for the veteran who is averaging an abysmal .182 average this season and a career-low .273 OBP. While his best days are undoubtedly behind him, his presence on an offensively inconsistent Miami squad further solidifies his spot as a free agent in virtually every fantasy league, regardless of the format.
Curtis Granderson Out Against Lefty, Martin Prado At First Base
Miami Marlins outfielder Curtis Granderson is not in the starting lineup on Friday against Padres left-handed starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi. Austin Dean is leading off and hitting leadoff, while Martin Prado will get the first crack at first base with Neil Walker (quadriceps) on the injured list. Dean is a desperation deep sleeper consideration in DFS, as he has eight hits in 43 at-bats (.186) with a homer and 11 strikeouts. Prado isn't much better (.234 average, one homer in 124 at-bats), so he's one to fade with very little upside left in his game.
Curtis Granderson, Neil Walker Sitting Versus Lefty
Miami Marlins outfielder Curtis Granderson and first baseman Neil Walker are not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against Giants left-handed starter Madison Bumgarner. Austin Dean is leading off and playing left field, while Martin Prado draws in at first base and is hitting sixth against the southpaw. Prado is hitting .455 with an RBI in 11 career at-bats against MadBum, but he's still one to fade in DFS on Wednesday. Dean will become a lottery ticket in daily setups out of the leadoff spot if you're feeling lucky. He has seven hits in 39 at-bats (.179) with only six RBI and 10 strikeouts in his 12 games.
Miami Marlins outfielder Curtis Granderson went 1-for-4 with a double along with a walk during Wednesday's loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. After coming in as a pinch hitter in the team's previous two outings which resulted in only two plate appearances, the 38-year-old played a full tilt in this one despite having relatively nothing to show for it. With Miami going 0-for-10 on the night with runners in scoring position, manager Don Mattingly may opt to continue to play around with the lineup in an attempt to get something going for one of the league's worst offenses, leaving the veteran with little fantasy appeal for the immediate future.
Miami Marlins catcher Jorge Alfaro and outfielder Curtis Granderson are not in the starting lineup on Thursday. Chad Wallach is doing the catching and is hitting seventh, while Peter O'Brien is in left field and is batting sixth against Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish. The biggest DFS beneficiary will be shortstop Miguel Rojas, who is moved up to the leadoff spot against Chicago. Even in the leadoff spot, Rojas will be more of a deep daily sleeper, as he's hitting .259 with no home runs, 10 runs, 10 RBI and one steal in 116 at-bats for the Fish this year.
Miami Marlins outfielder Curtis Granderson went 1-for-3 with a hit on Wednesday against the Indians. The 38-year-old has been relatively unproductive this season, sporting a subpar average of .188 to go along with only 15 hits in 80 plate appearances. With a day off, Granderson and the Marlins will host the Braves on Friday night with Kevin Gausman on the bump, a right-handed pitcher with a 4.80 ERA.
Miami Marlins outfielder Curtis Granderson went 1-for-3 with a home run, his fourth of the year, in the 7-4 loss to Cleveland on Tuesday. The 38-year-old has been relatively efficient at the plate over his last seven outings, going for four hits that resulted in extra bases while collecting four RBI in the process. He will look to keep it going on Wednesday against Corey Kluber and the Indians.
Miami Marlins veteran outfielder Curtis Granderson is off to a quick start early in his 2019 campaign. The journeyman outfielder, who signed with the Marlins in the offseason, has three RBI over his last two games, including two in Miami's 7-3 win over Colorado on Saturday. Granderson, who smacked a solo homer the day before, also has two walks to go along with his .400 average. He's always had a knack for getting on base and is showing why he still has value in 2019.
Miami Marlins outfielder Curtis Granderson will bat at the top of the lineup on Friday against German Marquez and the Colorado Rockies. Granderson is replacing Rosell Herrera who went 0-for-3 on Opening Day. Lewis Brinson also moves down to eighth in the lineup with the move. Granderson has seen his days of fantasy relevance go past him. The veteran outfielder appeared in 123 games last season and posted a .242 average to go along with 13 home runs and 38 RBI. There is some appeal if he manages to keep his spot at the top of the order, but for now, he can be left on the waiver wire. Granderson is 3-for-6 against Marquez in his career, but he should be faded in DFS formats on Friday.
