Moisés Gómez News
St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Moises Gomez has been sent outright to the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds. The Cardinals designated him for assignment back on January 29 to make room on their 40-man roster for the recently-acquired Alfonso Rivas but Gomez went unclaimed on waivers, so he will start the season at Triple-A. He smashed 30 home runs to go along with 79 RBI last season with the Redbirds last year but put up a lackluster .232/.293/.457 batting line over 514 at-bats in the process. He's still only 25 years old and will have a chance, at some point, to earn some major league at-bats. It's a long season and Gomez is a name to keep an eye on.

Cardinals Designate Moises Gomez For Assignment
The St. Louis Cardinals designated outfielder Moises Gomez for assignment on Monday to make room for first baseman/outfielder Alfonso Rivas on the 40-man roster after they claimed him off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels. Gomez, a 25-year-old Venezuelan right-handed hitter, has yet to make his debut in the big leagues. In 131 games for Triple-A Memphis last year, he hit .232/.293/.457 with 30 home runs, 20 doubles, three triples, 79 RBI, five stolen bases and 77 runs scored in 567 trips to the plate. Gomez has 124 career home runs in eight minor-league seasons, but he's also struck out 887 times in 715 games, including a career-high 180 punchouts in 2023. Gomez could draw interest from other teams for his power, but if he goes unclaimed, he could return to the Cardinals organization and begin the 2024 season at Memphis.

Moises Gomez Continues Power Display In Triple-A
St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Moises Gomez has put together a powerful season for the organization down on the farm and is hitting .296 with 37 homers and 88 RBI between Double-A Springfield and Triple-A. Memphis. Gomez, 24, was signed out of Venezuela by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2015, but struggled during his time in the organization and was picked up by the Cardinals in 2021. Since that time, all he has done is gone yard more than anyone in the minor leagues this season. It's unlikely that the Cardinals will be promoting him to close out the 2022 season, but he should have a chance to compete for a roster spot in 2023. For now, Gomez projects as a fourth outfielder and is only someone for dynasty managers to keep tabs on entering next season.

Moises Gomez Displaying Power In Minor Leagues
St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Moises Gomez went 1-for-5 with a home run for Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday. The homer was his 29th of the season between Double-A and Triple-A this year and that leads all of minor league baseball up to this point. The 23-year-old opened the season in Double-A and hit .321 with 23 homers and 54 RBI in 60 games. Since his promotion to Triple-A, Gomez has hit .278 with six homers and 16 RBI in 20 games. The slugger's biggest issue thus far in his career has been plate discipline, but he has his seen his strikeout rate drop in 2022. The power is there, but Gomez will have to improve his strikeout rate to make an impact in the big leagues. For now, Gomez is only worth monitoring in dynasty league with the Cardinals having one of the deeper outfield systems in the game,

Moises Gomez Promoted To Triple-A
St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Moises Gomez has been promoted from Double-A Springfield to Triple-A Memphis. The team's No. 28 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, was released by the Tampa Bay Rays last October, but he's broken out to the tune of a .321/.401/.705 slash line with a 1.106 OPS, 23 home runs, 54 RBI, 53 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 60 games for Springfield to earn the minor league promotion. On the negative side, the 23-year-old right-handed hitter has struck out 90 times in 257 plate appearances, and his swinging-strike rate will continue to be something that could limit his production at Triple-A and the majors. Gomez sells out a lot to get to his power, so it's unlikely he'll be a big batting average commodity if he makes it to St. Louis, but the raw power is obviously real.
