Nick Castellanos Expected to be Traded or Released

According to sources, the Philadelphia Phillies are expected to either trade or release veteran outfielder Nick Castellanos this offseason, per Matt Gelb of The Athletic. President of baseball operations David Dombrowski did not say anything regarding Castellanos during his press conference on Thursday. When asked specifically about Castellanos, Dombrowski said he could not comment on "specific players that are on our roster under contract," but then spent the next 34 minutes doing just that. The Phillies are a team in transition and will be looking to get younger this offseason. The 33-year-old Castellanos, a two-time All-Star, hit .250/.294/.400 with a .694 OPS, 17 home runs, 72 RBI, 72 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 147 regular-season games in his fourth year in Philly in 2025. With the Phillies bullish on Justin Crawford and Otto Kemp in the outfield, and with Harrison Bader potentially re-signing, Castellanos is the odd man out.

Nick Castellanos on the Bench on Thursday

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos will retreat to the bench for Thursday's series finale against the hosting Milwaukee Brewers. The left-handed-hitting Max Kepler will make the start in right field for the Phillies and will bat seventh against Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta. This will be the fourth time in the last 10 games that Castellanos will start on the bench for the first-place Phillies. Since Aug. 6, the 33-year-old veteran has fallen on hard times at the plate, going 12-for-75 (.160) with only one home run, two doubles, one RBI, 12 runs scored, six walks and 19 strikeouts in 20 games. Castellanos last homered on Aug. 17, although he did go 2-for-4 with two runs scored in Wednesday's 6-3 loss. Kepler has only faced Peralta seven times in his career, but he's hitting .429 against him with a 1.214 OPS.

Nick Castellanos Sitting on Saturday

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos is out of the lineup against the Washington Nationals and right-hander Cade Cavalli on Saturday. Max Kepler will take over in right field in Castellanos' place and hit seventh. The 33-year-old Castellanos is mired in a horrible slump, having gone 25-for-138 (.181) with five home runs, 15 RBI, and 36:4 K:BB in 35 games since the beginning of July. Overall, he owns a .252/.290/.405 line - among the worst of his career - with 15 homers, 60 RBI, 57 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 487 plate appearances.

Nick Castellanos Back in Action on Sunday

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos (knee) is back in right field and is hitting cleanup for Sunday's series finale in New York against Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon. Castellanos did not play in Saturday's contest in the Bronx after jamming his knee on defense in the series opener on Friday, but he's back on Sunday and should be returned to starting fantasy lineups despite a matchup against a tough left-hander. The 33-year-old veteran has hit well against Rodon in the past in 13 career at-bats, batting .385 with a home run and three RBI. In seven games in the second half of the season, Castellanos has gone 7-for-29 (.241) with a home run, five RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base. Castellanos is hitting .270/.311/.434 on the season as a whole with 13 homers, 56 RBI, 47 runs and four stolen bases in 392 at-bats.

Nick Castellanos Sitting Due to Knee Injury

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos (knee) jammed his left knee while approaching the outfield wall on the last play of Friday's series opener in the Bronx against the New York Yankees, according to manager Rob Thomson. Castellanos is sore, so the Phillies elected to hold him out of Saturday's lineup. They will check to see how he's feeling on Sunday and have labeled him as day-to-day. Max Kepler is starting in right field and will bat sixth against Yankees right-hander Marcus Stroman. This is certainly something that could end up sending Castellanos to the injured list if he's unable to get back on the field soon. The 33-year-old is in the midst of a modest four-game hitting streak and has hit a solid .270 (106-for-392) on the year with 13 homers and 56 RBI. Kepler has hit just .133 with two RBI in 15 career at-bats versus Stroman.

Nick Castellanos Being Benched After "Inappropriate Comment"

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos is sitting on Tuesday against the division-rival Miami Marlins because of an "inappropriate comment" he made after being removed from Monday's win, according to manager Rob Thomson. Max Kepler is starting in right field and will hit cleanup against Marlins right-hander Cal Quantrill. Believe it or not, Castellanos will take a seat for the first time in a big-league game since September of 2023. The 33-year-old veteran should be back in there on Wednesday in Miami. The former first-rounder has been steady but not amazing for fantasy managers in 2025 with a .278 average (76-for-273) with seven home runs, 36 RBI, 31 runs and two stolen bases. Kepler has nine homers in his first year in Philly but with only a .221 average (47-for-213). He's hitting .182 with a homer and four RBI in 22 career at-bats against Quantrill.

Nick Castellanos Blasts Grand Slam

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos hit a grand slam in Sunday's 11-4 win against the Blue Jays. It was his seventh home run of the season and his first since June 4th. The 33-year-old is now slashing .279/.322/.428 with seven home runs, 36 RBI, and 31 runs this season. The slugger's home run pace has been down so far, but if he maintains his current batting average, it would be the best he's done in that regard since he hit .309 in 2021. The veteran's strikeout rate has declined from 21.1% last season to 19.5% this season, which are both huge improvements over the 27.6% mark he posted in 2023. Castellanos is still a solid low-end starting outfielder for fantasy who will provide a good amount of counting stats.

Nick Castellanos Homers In Three-Hit Game

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBI, and two runs scored in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Rays. This was his third three-hit game of the season and his second straight multi-hit performance. He has been very good to begin 2025, producing a slash line of .288/.336/.455 with four home runs, 21 RBI, and 16 runs through his first 35 games. His 18.8% strikeout rate is a noticeable improvement, as he hasn't had a strikeout rate of less than 20 percent over a full season for the entirety of his career. The 33-year-old will continue to be a solid third-outfielder type for fantasy, putting up solid power numbers with good counting stats as part of an explosive Philadelphia lineup.

Nick Castellanos Suffers Hip Injury On Thursday, Should Play Friday

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos (hip) was lifted from Thursday's series-finale win over the San Francisco Giants due to left hip-flexor tightness, according to the team. Castellanos was lifted in the seventh inning of the eventual 6-4 victory, with Max Kepler moving to right field and Edmundo Sosa entering the contest in left field. Before departing, the 33-year-old veteran 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a strikeout. The good news is that manager Rob Thomson said after the game that Castellanos should be good to play for Friday's series opener at Citizens Bank Park against the division-rival Miami Marlins. It's good news for the Phillies outfield with Brandon Marsh also dealing with a knee injury. Fantasy managers will want to check back to see if Castellanos is back in there on Friday. He's off to a hot start, as he entered Thursday's game hitting .303 with three homers and 11 RBI.

Nick Castellanos Hitting Cleanup On Thursday

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos is in right field and is batting cleanup for Thursday's divisional clash against the Atlanta Braves and right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach at Truist Park. It's the first time that Castellanos has been in the cleanup spot this year, with the Phillies moving third baseman Alec Bohm moving down to the seven-hole after an 8-for-45 (.178) start to the year with no home runs. The 33-year-old Castellanos has been swinging a hot bat in the early going in 2025, hitting .308 (12-for-39) with two homers, three RBI and seven RBI. He's gone 7-for-18 in the last five games as well. The move up the lineup into the cleanup spot will make him a little more attractive for DFS lineups, albeit against a pitcher that has yet to give up a run this year. Castellanos has hit .222 with three RBI in nine career at-bats against Schwellenbach.
