Getting the promotion from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday as a result of Brandon Nimmo's IL stint, veteran New York Mets outfielder Rajai Davis made immediate impact. Appearing as a pinch-hitter on the same day, he stepped to the plate in the eighth with three runs already in and a pair of runners on base. The 38-year-old drilled a three-run home run to left as the Mets' huge eighth resulted in a 6-1 victory. With Nimmo injured and on the sidelines, Davis figures to be a regular contributor with the Mets at this point, surely seeing some starts and appearing late in games.
Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said that outfielder Rajai Davis will get the 25th spot on the roster for the American League Division Series against the Astros over infielder Erik Gonzalez. Davis' speed is what won him the spot, as he had 21 swipes in 101 games despite hitting just .224/.278/.281 with one homer and six RBI. Davis is highly unlikely to start any games in the series, however.
Rajai Davis is Starting in Center Field on Tuesday
Cleveland Indians outfielder Rajai Davis will draw the start in center field and bat ninth versus lefty Danny Duffy on Tuesday. Davis was activated off the disabled list on Saturday, but this is his first game action since late August. Davis is hitting .246/.293/.309 with one homer, six RBI and 16 stolen bases this season. Greg Allen will get the night off with Davis in the starting lineup. Duffy has been awful against the Indians this season, but it's tough to trust Davis for DFS contests.
The Cleveland Indians activated outfielder Rajai Davis from the disabled list when rosters expanded on Saturday. Davis has been out since late August with a non-baseball medical condition. He's mainly useful for his speed (16 stolen bases) in deeper leagues, and he'll be a platoon option in the Tribe's outfield from here on out.
Cleveland Indians outfielder Tyler Naquin (hip) has been scratched from the starting lineup on Friday. Rajai Davis will replace him in center field and face righty Mike Fiers. It's unclear how serious Naquin's hip issue is, but he could end up on the disabled list. Davis is not worth add in fantasy leagues or using in DFS contests on Friday.
The Cleveland Indians are using their hitting depth Wednesday. Outfielders Rajai Davis and Brandon Guyer, third baseman Erik Gonzalez and catcher Roberto Perez are all in the lineup. Of the four, Davis has the most DFS value on Wednesday. Davis is a career .281 hitter against left-handed pitching and is hitting in the leadoff spot. Davis, who is struggling with the bat this season, has a .294 batting average in 19 plate appearances against Texas Rangers starting pitcher Matt Moore. In addition, Davis already has five steals this season and should be a good bet to score runs if he can get on base on Wednesday.
Cleveland Indians outfielder Rajai Davis has made the Opening Day roster. Davis is a familiar face in Cleveland, and his positional versatility likely helped him make it past final cuts. He's a 37-year-old backup outfielder who slashed just .235/.293/.348 in 117 games last season, but he did swipe 29 bags. He could end up with some value in deep leagues if Cleveland has to deal with a few injuries to their outfield, but as the current fifth outfielder, he should be on every league's waiver wire.
The Cleveland Indians signed outfielder Rajai Davis to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Davis has an opt-out in his deal that allows him to become a free agent again on March 22 if he has not been added to the 40-man roster by then. Now 37, Davis will try to latch on as a backup outfielder. He hit just .235/.293/.348 over 117 games with the Red Sox and Athletics last season, but was a hero in the 2016 playoffs for Cleveland.
A's Trade Rajai Davis to Red Sox for Outfield Prospect
A's center fielder Rajai Davis has been dealt to the Boston Red Sox. The A's will receive low-level outfield prospect Rafael Rincones in return. Davis will be joining his seventh MLB team after hitting .233 with five home runs and 26 stolen bases this season for the A's. The Red Sox had a sudden need for center field depth after placing Jackie Bradley Jr. on the DL with a thumb injury. Davis' limited fantasy value does not change with a move to Boston, as he will likely only serve in a depth capacity for the Red Sox. The 17-year-old Rincones is hitting .258 with eight steals in the Dominican Summer League and is obviously a long ways away from making the Major Leagues.
The Boston Red Sox acquired Rajai Davis on Wednesday, potentially filling an outfield void left by Jackie Bradley. Davis is hitting just .233/.294/.353 this season, but while his bat offers little in the way of power, he remains a prime threat for steals. The veteran outfielder has swiped 26 bags in 100 games this season and would likely take playing time from Chris Young while Bradley, who went on the disabled list on Wednesday, is out of the lineup.
