Keston Hiura, Tyler Naquin Won't Make Brewers Roster

The Milwaukee Brewers informed out-of-options infielder Keston Hiura and non-roster outfielder Tyler Naquin on Friday that they will not make the team's Opening Day roster out of spring training. Hiura was scratched from Friday's Cactus League game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Milwaukee will now attempt to trade him before Opening Day next Thursday. The 26-year-old will likely go on waivers if no team wants to trade for him. He has decent power but doesn't make enough contact and strikes out far too often to be a lineup regular for most teams. Naquin, 31, could choose to opt out of his minor-league deal in order to latch on with another team in 2023. However, his poor performance at the plate this spring probably doesn't have many teams looking his way.

Tyler Naquin Back In Cactus League Lineup

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Tyler Naquin (shoulder) is back in the Cactus League lineup on Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox and right-handed starter Lance Lynn, starting in right field and batting fifth in the order. Naquin has missed a couple of games while dealing with minor shoulder discomfort, but he'll be back in the fold Tuesday. The 31-year-old has only played in three spring games to this point and has gone 2-for-8 with two doubles, one RBI and three strikeouts in nine plate appearances. He's hoping to win an Opening Day roster spot with Milwaukee after hitting a combined .229/.282/.423 with a .705 OPS, 11 home runs, 46 RBI, 47 runs scored and four stolen bases in 105 games with the Reds and Mets in 2022. If he makes the Brewers roster, he'll have limited playing time against right-handers.

Brewers Sign Tyler Naquin To Minor-League Deal

The Milwaukee Brewers have reportedly signed outfielder Tyler Naquin to a minor-league deal, per a tweet from The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Todd Rosiak on Tuesday. Also per Rosiak's tweet, the deal includes an invitation to major-league spring training. The outfielder appeared in 105 combined games for the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets last season, batting .229 with a .282 on-base percentage, 11 home runs and four stolen bases in 334 plate appearances. He'll provide the Brewers with some additional outfield depth this season. As of now, Milwaukee's current outfield options on the team's 40-man roster include Garrett Mitchell, Blake Perkins, Christian Yelich, Tyrone Taylor and Jesse Winker.

Tyler Naquin Isn't Starting On Tuesday For The Mets

New York Mets outfielder Tyler Naquin isn't in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday for a matchup with the Chicago Cubs and right-hander Adrian Sampson. The 31-year-old Naquin is batting .243 with a .302 on-base percentage, 11 home runs, and four stolen bases in 292 plate appearances this season. Instead, Jeff McNeil will move to right field with Luis Guillorme entering the lineup at second base. McNeil is batting third against Sampson and the Cubs while Guillorme is hitting eighth.

Tyler Naquin, Phillip Diehl Traded To The Mets

The New York Mets traded pitcher Jose Acuna and second baseman Hector Rodriguez to the Cincinnati Reds for outfielder Tyler Naquin and Phillip Diehl on Thursday. Naquin will join a crowded Mets outfield with Mark Canha, Starling Marte and Brandon Nimmo. The 31-year-old will provide the Mets with outfield depth, but he is not expected to see everyday at-bats like he was in Cincinnati. He is slashing .245/.305/.429 with six home runs, 31 RBI, 28 runs scored and three stolen bases over 55 games in 2022. Diehl will add bullpen depth and is expected to have a role in low-leverage situations. Naquin becomes mainly an option in deeper fantasy leagues, moving from the Reds to the Mets.

Tyler Naquin Starting Rehab Assignment Thursday

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Tyler Naquin (quadriceps) is starting his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. Naquin hasn't played in a major league game since May 31 due to a left quadriceps strain, so this could be a lengthy rehab assignment for the 31-year-old left-handed hitter. However, barring any setbacks on his rehab assignment, Naquin could return to the Reds outfield in early July before the All-Star break. Before his injury, Naquin was hitting a respectable .256/.315/.460 with five home runs, 22 RBI, 21 runs scored and three stolen bases in 150 plate appearances over 39 games, so he should at least return to a regular role against right-handed pitchers when he's activated.

Tyler Naquin Could Be Out For A Month

The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Tyler Naquin (quadriceps) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday due to a left quadriceps strain. On Thursday, Reds manager David Bell stated that Naquin could be out for a month, but that he was hopeful Naquin could return sooner than that. Bell also informed reporters that Naquin received a PRP injection. The Reds called up fellow outfielder TJ Friedl to take Naquin's roster spot. He'll be competing with Albert Almora Jr. and Aristides Aquino for playing time while Naquin is out.

Tyler Naquin Suffers Left Quad Injury

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Tyler Naquin (quadriceps) was forced to leave the game on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox in the fourth inning after suffering a left quadriceps strain. Aristides Aquino took over for Naquin in right field. Naquin went 0-for-2 in the contest before departing and is now slashing .255/.315/.460 in 150 plate appearances on the season with five home runs, 22 RBI, 22 runs scored and three stolen bases over 38 games. He's been especially hot of late, as he was hitting .294 (10-for-34) with three home runs, three RBI and a steal in 14 days before Tuesday's game. This could very well be an injury that sends him to the injured list, so fantasy managers need to be prepared to make some tweaks to their roster.

Tyler Naquin Back In The Lineup Tuesday

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Tyler Naquin is in Tuesday's lineup and hitting leadoff for a matchup with the Chicago Cubs and right-handed starter Marcus Stroman. Naquin wasn't in the lineup on Monday for the series-opening matchup but later appeared as a pinch hitter. He'll return to start in right field on Tuesday. So far this season, the 31-year-old is batting .256 with a .308 on-base percentage, four home runs, and three stolen bases in 131 plate appearances. For his career, Naquin has nine hits and a walk in 20 lifetime plate appearances against Stroman. He could be worth a look as a streaming option for fantasy managers in deeper leagues.

Nick Senzel, Tyler Naquin Placed On The COVID-19 IL

Cincinnati Reds outfielders Nick Senzel and Tyler Naquin were placed on the COVID-19 injured list on Wednesday. Senzel and Naquin were initially in the starting lineup but were placed on the IL before Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. It's unclear if either player tested positive for the virus or if they will have to pass MLB protocols before being activated from the injured list. Albert Almora Jr. and Ronnie Dawson were called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move. TJ Friedl and Matt Reynolds replaced Senzel and Naquin in the lineup and should see an uptick in at-bats with both outfielders out.
