The Cleveland Guardians re-signed Tyler Naquin to a minor-league deal on Thursday as a pitcher, according to MLB.com's Zack Meisel. The 33-year-old was originally drafted by Cleveland as an outfielder with the 15th overall pick in 2012 out of Texas A&M University, and he played in the big leagues with the organization from 2016-2020 before spending time with the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets and Chicago White Sox from 2021-23. Naquin always had a plus arm, so he will try his hand at pitching to attempt to extend his MLB career. He will turn 34 years old next month and will be a long shot to find any kind of fantasy appeal, let alone a lasting big-league roster spot as a pitcher in 2025 for the Guardians. Naquin was a .263/.316/.445 hitter with 61 homers and 237 RBI in 562 career games in his eight big-league seasons as an outfielder.
Keston Hiura, Tyler Naquin Won't Make Brewers Roster
The Milwaukee Brewers informed out-of-options infielder Keston Hiura and non-roster outfielder Tyler Naquin on Friday that they will not make the team's Opening Day roster out of spring training. Hiura was scratched from Friday's Cactus League game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Milwaukee will now attempt to trade him before Opening Day next Thursday. The 26-year-old will likely go on waivers if no team wants to trade for him. He has decent power but doesn't make enough contact and strikes out far too often to be a lineup regular for most teams. Naquin, 31, could choose to opt out of his minor-league deal in order to latch on with another team in 2023. However, his poor performance at the plate this spring probably doesn't have many teams looking his way.

Also per Rosiak's tweet, the deal includes an invitation to major-league spring training. The 31-year-old Naquin is batting .243 with a .302 on-base percentage, 11 home runs, and four stolen bases in 292 plate appearances this season. Instead, Jeff McNeil will move to right field with Luis Guillorme entering the lineup at second base. McNeil is batting third against Sampson and the Cubs while Guillorme is hitting eighth.

This could very well be an injury that sends him to the injured list, so fantasy managers need to be prepared to make some tweaks to their roster.
