Detroit Tigers infielder Ronny Rodriguez, after sitting Tuesday's game and Wednesday's postponement, is playing second base and batting cleanup in the first game of a doubleheader against the New York Yankees Thursday. Rodriguez has some pop but is an overall quite bad MLB hitter with a .220/.248/.451 slash line this season. He is not a DFS play to chase against Yankee starter J.A. Happ, who appears to be turning his season around with 12 1/3 scoreless innings in two starts against Oakland and Boston so far this September.
Detroit Tigers second baseman Josh Harrison (hamstring) and shortstop Ronny Rodriguez are not in the starting lineup on Tuesday. Niko Goodrum is starting at the keystone and is hitting leadoff, while Gordon Beckham is at the 6 and batting seventh against Orioles starting pitcher Dylan Bundy. Harrison should be considered day-to-day after tweaking his hamstring on Monday, while Rodriguez has cooled off considerably after a hot start and could start losing playing time to Beckham. Goodrum has hit just .207 (35-for-169) on the year with three homers, 13 RBI and four steals, so he's a deep sleeper in DFS out of the leadoff spot.
Detroit Tigers infielder Ronny Rodriguez has been a hit machine since his call-up on April 14, putting together a robust .340/.379/1.096 batting line with three home runs and a steal. Rodriguez added to his strong start on Wednesday with three hits, four RBI, and a run scored while batting fifth in the lineup. He's owned in just 9% of all fantasy leagues, and even though this stretch is beyond what can be expected from Rodriguez over the course of a full season, he's still worth scooping up and riding the hot streak if you're managing a team with injuries or slumping infielders.
Detroit Tigers second baseman Ronny Rodriguez will start Sunday and bat seventh after being recalled from Triple-A Toledo. The Tigers are banged up at the moment, with Jordy Mercer (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list and Josh Harrison (shoulder) sore after a diving play Saturday. Rodriguez has managed just seven hits in 33 plate appearances in the minors this season, so he won't be too useful for fantasy purposes in what will likely just be a cup of coffee with the Tigers.
Detroit Tigers second baseman Ronny Rodriguez had himself a big day at the plate on Thursday afternoon, hitting 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, and two RBI. Rodriguez did his part in the Tigers 7-2 win over the White Sox, as his solo bomb in the sixth inning off of James Shields was the first of his young career. With all that said, Rodriguez is hitting for a .211 average with just one home run and 10 RBI - he can be safely left on the waiver wire in all fantasy formats.
The Detroit Tigers activated reliever Alex Wilson (foot) Thursday ahead of their matchup with the Boston Red Sox. Wilson had been on the shelf since early May with a 95 percent tear in his left plantar fascia, and it's been a much longer recovery process than his status on the 10-day disabled list originally suggested. In a subsequent move, utility man Ronny Rodriguez was sent back down to Triple-A, having accrued just two hits in his big league action. Neither move has significant fantasy impact, although Wilson is a candidate in holds leagues.
Ronny Rodriguez Called Up, Grayson Greiner Sent Down
With shortstop Jose Iglesias (hip) hobbled up and listed as day-to-day, the Detroit Tigers have called up infielder Ronny Rodriguez. Rodriguez is off to a hot start at Triple-A Toledo, slashing .318/.341/.540 on the year. Most recently, he went 5-for-5 on Wednesday, hitting for the cycle with a pair of home runs. He'll figure into a middle-infield mix with Dixon Machado and Pete Kozma as Iglesias recovers. In a subsequent move, catcher Grayson Greiner was optioned to Triple-A in order to make room for Rodriguez.
