The Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a minor league deal with free-agent infielder Ruben Tejada on Wednesday. This is just a depth signing for the Phillies, as Tejada last played in the big leagues with the New York Mets in 2019, when he went hitless in just nine at-bats. Prior to that, Tejada hit .230/.293/.283 with no home runs and five RBI in 41 games (124 plate appearances) with the Baltimore Orioles in 2017. In nine big league seasons, the 31-year-old has a career .250/.324/.317 slash line with 10 home runs, 158 RBI and 16 stolen bases on 663 games with the Mets, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants and Orioles. Tejada will continue to remain firmly off the fantasy radar as a glove-first player.
Ruben Tejada May Be Worth Spot Start Versus Cole Hamels
Normally Ruben Tejada's name doesn't conjure much excitement in fantasy circles. Today might be a good day to take a shot with him, though. He's hit Cole Hamels well over the course of his 31 at-bats, to the tune of a .290 average and two RBI. He's hitting eighth in the lineup. The Orioles are going to need all the offensive help they can get with Wade Miley, who has struggled mightily of late, taking the hill for them. Just be glad that Chase Utley is nowhere near the park.
