Texas Rangers relief pitcher Ryan Tepera has decided to opt out of his minor-league deal with the organization. The 35-year-old signed a minor-league deal with the team last month after being released by the Los Angeles Angels. He struggled heavily during his time with the Angels, but pitched well in the minors. Tepera didn't allow a run across 10 innings of work with 16 strikeouts in the minors with Texas. The nine-year veteran has experienced plenty of success throughout his career. It's possible another organization will give him a chance on their MLB roster.
The Texas Rangers signed free-agent relief pitcher Ryan Tepera to a minor-league deal on Wednesday. He'll stay in the American League West and will report to Triple-A Round Rock after choosing free agency at the end of May. Tepera spent the last year and a half pitching for the Los Angeles Angels, and he had a rough 7.27 ERA (5.70 FIP), 2.08 WHIP, three walks and 10 strikeouts in 8 2/3 relief innings for the Halos this year. The 35-year-old veteran right-hander will provide organizational relief depth for Texas for the time being, but he's well off the fantasy radar. In nine big-league seasons with four different teams, Tepera has a 3.59 career ERA (4.06 FIP), 1.13 WHIP, 18 saves and a 24.5 percent strikeout rate in 363 1/3 innings pitched.
Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Ryan Tepera landed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday. The right-hander exited Saturday's matchup with the Red Sox and will now go on the shelf because of shoulder inflammation. Tepera has struggled this season, sporting a 1-1 record with two holds. He also has a miserable 11.25 ERA in six relief appearances. Hopefully, some time away will help the 35-year-old get on track. Either way, he has some work to do before earning a place on fantasy rosters. In a corresponding move, LA recalled righty Andrew Wantz from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Ryan Tepera picked up his second save of the season in Monday's 1-0 win over the A's. Tepera got the call to end the game and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with no strikeouts. The veteran has seen save opportunities at times throughout his career and has managed a decent 3.95 ERA through 41 innings pitched this season. However, four different relievers have seen save opportunities for the Angels since the trade deadline, when Raisel Iglesias was traded. Tepera may be the best bet for fantasy managers chasing saves given his prior experience, but his fantasy value is still low given how poorly the Angels have played and the uncertainty at the back of the bullpen.
The Los Angeles Angels have signed relief pitcher Ryan Tepera to a two-year deal worth $14 million. The 34-year-old split the 2021 season with the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox. Overall, he appeared in 65 games and pitched to a 2.79 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP while averaging 10.9 K/9. He compiled two saves and 22 holds over the course of the year. Raisel Iglesias is currently set to be the Angels' closer going into 2022. Tepera could wind up being one of the top setup men in front of Iglesias. Fantasy managers in deep leagues who are looking for setup men who can rack up holds should keep Tepera on their radar.
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Ryan Tepera (finger) told reporters that he hopes to return to the team early next week. He is targeting the team's two-game series against the Cincinnati Reds that begins on Tuesday. He stated that he wanted to get two or three games in before the postseason begins. The right-hander was sent to the injured list due to a cut on the index finger of his right hand last week. He's been one of the top relievers for the White Sox since being acquired from the Cubs prior to the trade deadline. Over 20 appearances with the White Sox, he has a 2.81 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP to go along with six holds and a save.
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Ryan Tepera (finger) was placed on the 10-day injured list before Tuesday's game with a right index finger laceration. The move was retroactive to September 11 and relief pitcher Jacey Fry was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding roster move. The 33-year-old did not require stitches and is expected to be out five to seven days. Tepera has been a solid addition to the White Sox bullpen, posting a 2.81 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 22 K across 16 innings pitched.
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Ryan Tepera has been traded to the Chicago White Sox for pitcher Bailey Horn, the White Sox announced on Twitter Thursday. The White Sox get the bullpen upgrade that they needed in Tepera, who has been one of the best relievers in baseball over the last two years with a 3.23 ERA, 0.984 WHIP and 31.9 percent strikeout rate over 64 innings since 2020. While he won't be vying for saves with Liam Hendriks firmly entrenched as the team's closer, Tepera should see a boost in value in SV/HLD formats now that he has a better lineup behind him. Horn was a fifth round pick by the White Sox in last year's draft, and over 38 1/3 innings of work this season, he has gone 2-3 with a 5.63 ERA, 1.330 WHIP and 27.3 percent strikeout rate.
The Chicago Cubs have activated relief pitcher Ryan Tepera (calf) from the 10-day injured list. Tepera spent the minimum amount of time on the injured list with a left calf strain. Tepera has been excellent out of the bullpen for the Cubs, but struggled in his last outing. That could be due to the calf injury and managers should strongly consider Tepera in leagues that counts holds. With the Cubs struggling and closer Craig Kimbrel becoming a hot trade commodity, Tepera would like see save chances if Kimbrel is dealt. Left-hander Andrew Chafin also would be a candidate to see save opportunities. Tepera owns a 3.85 ERA with a 0.82 WHIP in 37 2/3 innings. To make room for Tepera, the Cubs placed relief pitcher Brad Wieck (irregular heartbeat) on the 10-day injured. The Cubs continued the shuffling of their bullpen with the promotion of left-hander Kyle Ryan. To make room for Ryan, the Cubs demoted reliever Cory Abbott.
Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Tepera (calf) threw live batting practice on Monday and is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's game against the Cardinals. He's been sidelined since June 29 with a left calf strain. The 33-year-old owns a 3.35 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and a 41:12 K: BB across 37 2/3 innings in 2021. Tepera has fantasy value in league formats which reward solds (saves and holds) and has racked up 14 holds and one save over 37 games this season.
