The Milwaukee Brewers claimed relief pitcher Sal Romano off waivers on Tuesday. Romano was designated for assignment by the New York Yankees on July 31. The Brewers will be Romano's third team this year as he began the year with the Cincinnati Reds. The Brewers placed John Axford (elbow) on the injured list on Tuesday, so they decided to look elsewhere for some bullpen depth. Romano doesn't figure to see many high-leverage opportunities off the bat. Over 23 innings this year, he's posted a 4.70 ERA with a 1.39 WHIP.
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Sal Romano said he has lost almost 15 pounds since the season ended. I was always 270 (pounds), creeping up a little bit, Romano said. I just wanted to see how my body reacts. Im going to see how I feel when I do start throwing and see how my arm responds, my body responds. If I need to put a little bit more weight on, Ill do that. But I really was determined to lose some weight this offseason." The right-hander had a 5.31 ERA in 39 outings (25 starts) for the Reds last year and will compete for a rotation spot in spring training. You can avoid him in mixed leagues.
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Sal Romano could start on Sunday against the Pirates in the regular season finale if he's not used in relief on Friday. Romano had a few decent starts here and there in 2018, but he was too erratic mostly for those to rely on him in mixed leagues. The right-hander is 8-11 with a 5.36 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and mediocre 6.7 K/9 over 37 outings (24 starts). He also hasn't started a game since Aug. 21, making him more unattractive if he gets the nod on Sunday.
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Sal Romano lasted just 1 2/3 innings in Tuesday's 8-1 loss to the Indians. Romano surrendered six runs on seven hits with two walks and one strikeout. The 24-year-old has had some bright spots this season but is now 7-10 with a 5.31 ERA in 123 2/3 IP. Things will not get easier for him in his next start Tuesday at the Brewers.
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Sal Romano fell to 6-9 after Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Tigers. Romano allowed four runs on eight hits (including a solo home run) and no walks with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. This was Romano's first start in his last five in which he allowed more than three earned runs. He 5.12 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP in 116 IP. The 24-year-old has had an up-and-down season and has been inconsistent, but faces a favorable Mets matchup in his next start Tuesday.
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Sal Romano turned in an OK start against the Indians on Tuesday. Romano pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits (including two home runs) and two walks with one strikeout. He would have taken the loss had the Reds not rallied for seven runs in the ninth inning. The 24-year-old will head into the All-Star break with a 5-8 record and a 5.28 ERA. At this point, Romano should not be considered by fantasy players except in deep dynasty leagues.
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Sal Romano picked up his fifth win on Wednesday, holding the Chicago White Sox to four runs in five innings of work. Romano allowed six hits while striking out six in the ballgame. The young hurler improves his record to 5-8 with a 5.40 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts in 95 innings of work. Romano hasn't been much more than an innings eater for the Reds this season and is really only useful in fantasy as a streamer in favorable matchups.
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Sal Romano pitched an average game in Friday's 8-2 loss to the Brewers, allowing two runs on seven hits (including a solo home run) and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings. The 24-year-old is now 4-8 with a 5.30 ERA, a 6.70 K/9 rate, and a3.80 BB/9 rate in 90 IP. He has delivered some good starts this season but still has a ways to go before becoming a reliable fantasy option and should only be owned in deeper dynasty leagues at this point. Romano will look to turn in a strong start on Wednesday against a favorable White Sox matchup.
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Sal Romano was hit hard on Sunday against the Cubs after turning in two strong performances. Romano allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts in five innings. The 24-year-old is now 4-7 with a 5.40 ERA in 85 IP. He will look to rebound Friday in a tough Brewers matchup.
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Sal Romano took advantage of a favorable matchup against the Royals on Tuesday in a 5-1 win. Romano allowed just one run on four hits (including a solo home run) and a walk with two strikeouts through eight innings. The Reds scored their runs in the ninth and 10th innings, so Romano took a no-decision. This was the 24-year-old's first start out of his last six outings in which he allowed less than four runs. Romano now has a 3-7 record with a 5.67 ERA, 50 strikeouts, 31 walks and 13 HRs allowed in 73 innings pitched this season, so fantasy players should not trust him even after this good start. However, Romano may be able to take advantage of another favorable matchup Tuesday against the Tigers, who are hitting just .218 as a team in June and just lost Miguel Cabrera (biceps) for the rest of the season.
