Shin-Soo Choo To Play In KBO In 2021

Free-agent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is expected to join the SK Wyverns of the Korean Baseball Organization in 2021, according to Tae Woo Kim of SPOTV. The 38-year-old left-handed hitter spent the last seven years with the Texas Rangers, and he hit .236/.323/.400 over 33 games in the shortened 2020 season. Choo was an All-Star in 2018 and has 218 home runs and 157 stolen bases in his 16-year career. He was able to compile three 20-20 seasons with the Cleveland Indians while slashing .292/.383/.469. In his All-Star season, he hit .264 with 21 long balls with Texas. In his last full season in 2019, Choo hit a career-best 24 home runs while stealing 15 bases. He had been working out some at first base this offseason to increase his versatility, but he'll likely play the outfield or serve as a designated hitter in Korea. Fantasy managers can cross Choo off their cheat sheets this year.

Brewers Looking At Shin-Soo Choo At First Base

Free-agent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo has been working out at first base with the goal of increasing his versatility, and the Milwaukee Brewers are among the teams interested in him at the position. Choo has hit .289 with an .883 OPS against right-handed pitchers in his career, and a few National League teams are keeping tabs on him. The 38-year-old hit .236 with five home runs, six stolen bases and 15 RBI in 33 games for the Rangers in the shortened 2020 season. From 2017-19, he hit .263 while averaging 22 home runs, 11 steals and 67 RBI in the last three full seasons, but he's never played first base in the majors. Keston Hiura is set to play first base in Milwaukee after they signed Kolten Wong for the keystone, but Choo could provide depth at first base and in the outfield. With no designated hitter expected in the NL in 2021, Choo is trying to maximize his interest on the free-agent market.

Shin-Soo Choo Eyes Return In 2021, Will Prepare To Play

Texas Rangers outfielder/designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo is slated to become a free agent at the conclusion of the 2020 year. After signing a seven-year deal with the Rangers ahead of 2014, Choo will hit the free-agent market at 38 years old, yet he has made it clear that there is uncertainty surrounding 21, even as he prepares to play. Texas has been pointed in saying that they will turn the club over to younger talent next season, which makes a reunion with Choo, who has slashed .229/.317/.394 in 20, uncertain.

Shin-Soo Choo Placed On 10-Day Injured List

Texas Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday afternoon with a sprained wrist. The 38-year-old suffered the injury during Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Choo has enjoyed several seasons with useful fantasy production, but 2020 is not one of them. He is slashing .229/.317/.394 with 15 RBI through 109 at-bats, making him a safe drop in all formats.

Shin-Soo Choo Returns To Lineup

Texas Rangers outfielderShin-Soo Choo (oblique, calf), who has been dealing with multiple injuries, will return to the lineup and bat first on Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics. Choo missed six games but avoided the injured list. The 38-year-old is generally a slow starter and is hitting just .211 with three home runs, 10 RBI and three stolen bases this season. Choo shouldnt be a priority outside of deep mixed leagues at the moment.

Shin-Soo Choo Out Again On Tuesday

Texas Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo (oblique) is out of the lineup again on Tuesday, making it six consecutive missed games for the 38-year-old. Choo is dealing with multiple ailments according to manager Chris Woodward, but Choos oblique is his most significant issue, and it seems likely that the outfielder will require an IL stint at this point, though his exact timeline remains unclear. Choo had been struggling with a .662 OPS over his first 21 games, and any chance of a rebound is put on hold with Choo sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Shin-Soo Choo Out Of Lineup For Third Straight Game

Texas Rangers outfielder/designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo is once again out of the mix for Saturdays contest against Seattle and left-handed Justus Sheffield. Manager Chris Woodward noted that while Choo is battling a calf ailment, there are other things affecting him as well, which may help explain why he is not among the starting nine for the third consecutive contest. Choo has scuffled mightily against southpaws this season, going 3-for-20 with seven total bases. It appears that the veteran is no longer an everyday member of the Rangers lineup, which significantly decreases any season-long appeal that he may have had.

Shin-Soo Choo Absent From Thursday’s Lineup

Texas Rangers outfielder/designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo is out of the starting nine Thursday against San Diego and right-hander Dinelson Lamet. Choo is dealing with calf soreness, allowing Nick Solak to slide into the leadoff spot with Scott Heineman getting the start in the outfield. While Choo has produced just a .366 SLG through his first 21 games, that sits far below his .538 xSLG. With his defensive metrics cratering, in addition to a possible calf ailment, expect to see Choo utilized in the DH role more prominently moving forward. His next chance to get back in the lineup comes Friday against the Mariners and left-hander Nick Margevicius.

Shin-Soo Choo Collects Three Hits And A Steal

Texas Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo batted leadoff on Saturday against the Colorado Rockies and led by example for his teammates. The lefty went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and one stolen base. Choo led off the game with a double before plating a run in the third and the fifth innings with two singles. It was his third stolen base of the season, and, now, he is on pace for a 10 home run and 10 steal season. The 2018 All-Star has a .289 BABIP (lowest since 2016), and things should get better as this season rolls along. That is the icing on the cake for his fantasy managers because Choo already has a .785 OPS. Any improvement in the BABIP department will move the veteran from a fifth outfielder in roto leagues to a must start and possibly a trade asset heading into your league's trade deadline.

Shin-Soo Choo Goes Deep In Oakland

Texas Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo collected his third home run of the season on Wednesday night. Choo smacked the first pitch of the game out of the park off A's starter Sean Manaea. The veteran lefty now has the strange season line of four hits and three home runs. So despite a .167 batting average, he has an OPS of .827. Choo has appeared in nine of the Rangers' 10 games this year and regularly finds himself in the leadoff spot at least half the time. Texas hasn't been rolling on offense, but there is enough hitting in that lineup to get Choo a few runs scored. He should be owned in all five-outfielder leagues for now and is worth a bench spot in points league thanks to his ability to take a walk.
