Shin-Soo Choo News
Free-agent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is expected to join the SK Wyverns of the Korean Baseball Organization in 2021, according to Tae Woo Kim of SPOTV. The 38-year-old left-handed hitter spent the last seven years with the Texas Rangers, and he hit .236/.323/.400 over 33 games in the shortened 2020 season. Choo was an All-Star in 2018 and has 218 home runs and 157 stolen bases in his 16-year career. He was able to compile three 20-20 seasons with the Cleveland Indians while slashing .292/.383/.469. In his All-Star season, he hit .264 with 21 long balls with Texas. In his last full season in 2019, Choo hit a career-best 24 home runs while stealing 15 bases. He had been working out some at first base this offseason to increase his versatility, but he'll likely play the outfield or serve as a designated hitter in Korea. Fantasy managers can cross Choo off their cheat sheets this year.
Free-agent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo has been working out at first base with the goal of increasing his versatility, and the Milwaukee Brewers are among the teams interested in him at the position. Choo has hit .289 with an .883 OPS against right-handed pitchers in his career, and a few National League teams are keeping tabs on him. The 38-year-old hit .236 with five home runs, six stolen bases and 15 RBI in 33 games for the Rangers in the shortened 2020 season. From 2017-19, he hit .263 while averaging 22 home runs, 11 steals and 67 RBI in the last three full seasons, but he's never played first base in the majors. Keston Hiura is set to play first base in Milwaukee after they signed Kolten Wong for the keystone, but Choo could provide depth at first base and in the outfield. With no designated hitter expected in the NL in 2021, Choo is trying to maximize his interest on the free-agent market.
Texas Rangers outfielder/designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo is slated to become a free agent at the conclusion of the 2020 year. After signing a seven-year deal with the Rangers ahead of 2014, Choo will hit the free-agent market at 38 years old, yet he has made it clear that there is uncertainty surrounding 21, even as he prepares to play. Texas has been pointed in saying that they will turn the club over to younger talent next season, which makes a reunion with Choo, who has slashed .229/.317/.394 in 20, uncertain.
