The Cincinnati Reds signed right-hander Silvino Bracho to a minor-league deal on Thursday with an invitation to major-league spring training. Bracho appeared in the big leagues in 2022 for the first time in two years, giving up three earned runs on three hits while walking one and striking out four in only 4 1/3 relief innings over three outings for the Atlanta Braves. The 30-year-old also pitched in the minors for the Boston Red Sox and had a 2.83 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 70 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings over 38 appearances (five starts) for Triple-A Gwinnett and Triple-A Worcester. In 94 relief innings at the big-league level over six seasons, Bracho has a 4.88 ERA (5.03 FIP), a 1.29 WHIP, one save and 98 strikeouts.
The Atlanta Braves have acquired relief pitcher Silvino Bracho from the Red Sox for cash considerations on Thursday after he was designated for assignment earlier in the day. The right-hander last appeared in the majors for one inning with the Diamondbacks in 2020, and has pitched to a 3.16 ERA with a 36/4 K/BB through 31 1/3 IP with Triple-A Worcester to date this season. The Braves have added him to the 40-man roster, but he likely won't work his way up to any fantasy-relevant role for the club this year.
Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Brad Ziegler is officially active for Thursday's contest against the San Francisco Giants. Relief pitcher Silvino Bracho has been optioned to Triple-A Reno to make room for Ziegler on the active roster. Ziegler was the closer in Miami during the beginning of the season, but over the last couple of months he's been pitching in a setup role for the Marlins. The D-Backs still have Brad Boxberger at closer, so it looks like Ziegler will continue to pitch in a setup role. That is going to hinder plenty of his fantasy value going forward, but there is a chance he does see save chances if Boxberger struggles.
Jorge De La Rosa Returns From DL, D-backs Option Silvino Bracho
Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Jorge De La Rosa has been reinstated after spending time on the disabled list with right Achilles tendon bursitis. Before the injury, De La Rosa sported a 3.54 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 11 strikeouts. His return comes at the cost of Silvino Bracho, who will be optioned to Triple-A Reno. Bracho has pitched well during his brief stint in the majors, posting a 1.08 ERA and 12 strikeouts. Owners should keep an eye on his return, as he provides a spark as a relief pitcher. De La Rosa can be avoided for now.
