Steven Souza Jr. Signs Minor-League Deal With Seattle
The Seattle Mariners signed outfielder Steven Souza Jr. to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to Spring Training. The 32-year-old could make up to $1 million if he makes the big league roster. He slashed .152/.222/.333 with a triple, homer, and three RBI over 36 plate appearances for the Dodgers in 2021. The veteran hit 30 home runs and swiped 16 bags for the Rays back in 2017. Souza hasn't seen everyday at-bats since then and is not on the fantasy radar in 2022, even if he does make the team.
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Steven Souza Jr. has been designated for assignment on Tuesday. Souza was promoted to the big league club on June 16 and struggled in limited playing time. The veteran only had four hits in 25 at-bats with one home run and two RBI. Relief pitcher will Jake Reed will replace Souza on the roster. This will be the first taste of the majors for Reed at the age of 28 and he could be avoided in all formats for now.
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Steven Souza Jr. went 1-for-3 with a walk and solo home run versus the Arizona Diamondbacks in Friday's victory. The veteran was called up earlier this week and made his first start of the season Friday. The veteran is up with the Dodgers dealing with a flurry of injuries, but he is unlikely to make an impact for fantasy purposes. Managers can safely leave the outfielder on the waiver wire for now.
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Steven Souza Jr. has had his contract selected from Triple-A Oklahoma City and will join the team, according to Juan Toribio of MLB.com. To make room for Souza, the Dodgers designated relief pitcher Nate Jones for assignment. Souza slashed .148/.258/.333 over 11 games with the Cubs in 2020, but across 22 games at Triple-A this season, Souza is slashing .279/.444/.603 with six home runs, 16 RBI and 17 runs scored. He'll likely just be a bench outfielder for Los Angeles, and act as an insurance policy in case Cody Bellinger lands on the injured list. His value will be limited to deep NL-only formats for now.
The Houston Astros agreed to an undisclosed deal with free-agent outfielder Steven Souza Jr. on Saturday, according to a source. The 31-year-old hit just .148 in 27 at-bats in 11 games for the Chicago Cubs in the shortened 2020 season after missing all of the 2019 campaign while recovering from surgery to fix an ACL tear, LCL tear, partial PCL tear and a posterior lateral capsule tear in his left knee. The right-handed hitter has a .232 career batting average with 71 home runs, 203 RBI and a .737 OPS in six major league seasons with the Nationals, Rays, Diamondbacks and Cubs. Souza slugged a career-high 30 home runs and stole 16 bases for the Rays back in 2017 but has played in just 83 games in the last three years due to injuries. He'll compete for a roster spot in spring training, but Houston has some outfield openings, so Souza could be a low-cost deep league sleeper if he earns regular playing time in Houston.
The Chicago Cubs have designated outfielder Steven Souza Jr. for assignment after he went 0-for-2 in Game 1 of Saturdays doubleheader against the Cardinals. The outfielder spent some time this season on the injured list with a hamstring strain, but was hitting a poor .160 with one home run, five RBI and a stolen base. Souza Jr. is a candidate to get picked up as a depth piece for other organizations, but holds no fantasy relevance. Pitcher Tyson Miller was called up to take his spot on the roster.
Kris Bryant, Steven Souza Jr. Take Swings, Live AB’s Set Monday
The Chicago Cubs are without third baseman Kris Bryant and outfielder Steven Souza Jr. for the time being with both on the injured list. The duo took swings off of a pitching machine at Wrigley Field on Sunday, with live at-bats expected to come Monday at the clubs alternate training site. Chicago has been mum on when either could return to the mix, but the fact that the team acquired Jose Martinez on Sunday, combined with Bryant and Souza only just swinging at this stage indicates that the return of neither is imminent. Bryant is the bigger fantasy intrigue of the two, as hell reclaim top tier fantasy status immediately upon his activation, whenever that may be.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Steven Souza Jr. (hamstring) had a MRI on Wednesday that diagnosed him with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. The outfielder was scratched from Mondays lineup and placed on the injured list Tuesday. Souza has dealt with injuries throughout his career and has been operating as the Cubs fourth outfielder. He has struggled in that role thus far and is hitting .190 with a home run, five RBI and a stolen base. Souza isnt expected to return to baseball activities for seven to 10 days and should be left on the waiver wire when he is healthy.
Steven Souza Jr. Lands On Injured List With Hamstring Ailment
Chicago Cubs outfielder Steven Souza Jr. has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a strained right hamstring. The move allows the team to purchase the contract of utilityman Hernan Perez, who could fill in for Souza as the clubs extra outfielder off the bench. Souza has delivered an underwhelming .144 xBA across his first nine games, making him primarily a low-priced DFS option when hes in the lineup. With just five starts to this point in the season coupled with his stint on the IL, Souza can remain on the wire in all formats.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Steven Souza Jr. has been scratched from Mondays opening contest of a doubleheader against St. Louis due to a tight right hamstring. His absence forces Ian Happ to shift over to right field, while Albert Almora Jr. will hold down center field. With Souza being out of the mix for Game 1, he presumably is also not available for Game 2 later Monday. His absence leaves Chicagos outfield thin as Jason Hayward (back) is also not in the lineup. Souza is primarily a DFS play at this stage as he has had to compete for playing time in the Cubs outfield.
