After 15 long innings at Citizens Bank Park, the Philadelphia Phillies finally emerged with a victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 16th. The decisive swing came off third baseman Trevor Plouffes bat after taking over for Maikel Franco. The 32-year-old journeyman ended the near-six hour game with a three-run blast off Kike Hernandez, the Dodgers position player who was beginning his first inning on the mound. This was Plouffes second hit since debuting for the Phillies earlier this month and he might not have a bigger one the rest of the way. The Phillies remain atop the NL East holding a one-game lead over the Atlanta Braves.
Veteran infielder Trevor Plouffe signed a minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies today after he was granted his release from the Texas Rangers. The 31-year-old signed with that club in February, but never reached the majors, eventually asking for his release. Plouffe, who spent his first seven seasons with the Minnesota Twins, is a lifetime .242 hitter, though he hit a measly .198 in 100 games between Oakland and Tampa Bay last season. With the Phillies, he also sees a tough road to the majors, as the club has a litany of fresh, young faces in their current infield.
Veteran third baseman Trevor Plouffe has been released by the Texas Rangers. Plouffe is reportedly considering his options and still may resign with Texas and accept an assignment with their Triple-A affiliate. At this point, unless another club becomes desperate for a bat with MLB experience, it is unlikely that other options will pop up for Plouffe. This confirms that the 31-year old has no value in fantasy leagues in 2018.
Trevor Plouffe Told He Will Not Make Opening Day Roster
The Athletic's Levi Weaver reports that the Texas Rangers have told third baseman Trevor Plouffe that he will not make the Opening Day roster and will be designated for assignment. The veteran said when he signed that he was not expecting to accept a minor league assignment, but it is unclear if he has changed his tune in the weeks since. Plouffe has struggled this spring training, hitting just .194/.265/.323 and a single home run over 31 at-bats. The lack of pop from a presumed power bat does not inspire confidence, and with better options in Adrian Beltre, Jurickson Profar, and 25-year old Hanser Alberto, Plouffe does not appear to have any opportunity or fantasy value going forward.
Texas Rangers third baseman Trevor Plouffe was scratched from Monday's lineup with left intercostal tightness. He has dealt with intercostal issues in the past, so there is no reason to push it. Plouffe is in camp with the Rangers this spring as a non-roster invitee and is unlikely to have any fantasy impact, even if he makes the team as a bench bat.
Free-agent third baseman Trevor Plouffe will sign a deal with the Texas Rangers, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. This is a minor league deal, and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic said a deal was close. Plouffe will be given the opportunity to contribute all over the infield if he makes the team. He had a .590 OPS last season between the Athletics and Rays but has twice hit over 20 home runs in a season and has a career .790 OPS against left-handed pitchers.
The Tampa Bay Rays called up infielder Trevor Plouffe in time for the series against Minnesota. He would pinch-hit in the eighth inning where he would single in a run and then come around to score in an 11-4 victory. There is no confirmation of any kind of collective "win one for Trevor" pact by his teammates but it was a victory against a fellow wild card contender who also happened to be Trevor Plouffe's former team. A reminder that Plouffe was terrible so far this season offensively since joining the Rays.
Tampa Bay Rays infielder Trevor Plouffe was designated for assignment Tuesday. He has hit .178 with two RBIs in 31 games for the Rays. He had a role until Tampa Bay traded for Lucas Duda who replaced Plouffe as the alternative for the times when Logan Morrison needs a rest. The move was made Tuesday to allow the Rays to call up reliever Andrew Kittredge to shore up the bullpen but the longer-term adjustment will be that Alex Cobb will be called up Thursday. Plouffe is unlikely to have much value right now.
The A's have traded recently DFA'd third baseman Trevor Plouffe to the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Plouffe was signed to a one-year, $5.25 million contract in the offseason. He was DFA'd to make room for call-up Matt Chapman, whom the A's consider their third baseman of the future. Plouffe does not have a clear path to at-bats in Tampa, with Evan Longoria playing third base, Logan Morrison at first and Corey Dickerson at the DH. Morrison struggles against left-handers, and Plouffe has hit .294 off them this season, making a platoon at 1B seem the most likely scenario. This could spell the end of Rickie Weeks in Tampa as well, who has been serving as the platoon option at 1B so far this year. Regardless, Plouffe's already limited fantasy value takes a hit with this move, and he should be dropped in virtually all formats as a bench bat. He was hitting .214 with seven home runs and 14 RBI before being DFA'd.
Oakland A's third baseman Trevor Plouffe is set to be designated for assignment by the A's today in order to make room for top prospect Matt Chapman. Plouffe was signed to a one-year, $5.25 million contract during the offseason but has struggled mightily with the A's. He is hitting .214 with seven home runs and 14 RBI and has made six errors in the field. His playing time has dropped considerably over the last two weeks, having only started one game on the team's last road trip to Tampa Bay and Miami. The move allows third baseman Ryon Healy to slide over to designated hitter, giving Chapman third base duties full time. Plouffe should be dropped in all formats while he looks for another big league opportunity. Chapman remains an intriguing power option in deep mixed, dynasty and AL-only formats.
