Trey Sweeney Collects Four Hits

Detroit Tigers infielder Trey Sweeney put together an excellent performance at the plate during Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The former first-round pick has struggled early in his big league career, but had the bat going on Sunday. Sweeney took A's starter J.T. Ginn deep in the third inning for his third homer of the season. It would just continue from there as Sweeney finished the game 4-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a stolen base in the win. He's still not worth rostering in most fantasy formats, but maybe this is a sign of good things to come for Sweeney.

Tigers Calling Up Trey Sweeney

The Detroit Tigers are calling up shortstop prospect Trey Sweeney from Triple-A Toledo, according to a source. The former first-round pick has been on a tear of late in the minors and was one of two prospects that the Tigers acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline in late July for right-hander Jack Flaherty. Per MLB Pipeline, the 24-year-old is considered the Tigers' No. 20 prospect. Since joining the Mud Hens, Sweeney has hit .381/.447/.667 with two home runs, nine RBI and four steals in 11 games. In 96 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City with the Dodgers, he hit .255/.334/.427 with 13 homers, 62 RBI and 16 stolen bases. The 6-foot-3, 212-pounder from Eastern Illinois figures to play regularly for the out-of-contention Tigers and could take starts away from the struggling Javier Baez at shortstop down the stretch.

Trey Sweeney Mashing Since Trade

Last week, the Detroit Tigers traded for shortstop prospect Trey Sweeney. Since then, Sweeney has been outstanding with Triple-A Toledo. In three games, he's gone 7-for-14 with two doubles, two home runs, and six RBI. Overall, the 24-year-old infielder has played 99 games this season, slashing .263/.339/.449 with 24 doubles, three triples, 15 homers, 68 RBI, 16 stolen bases, and 44:120 BB/SO. Detroit's No. 24 prospect (per MLB.com), Sweeney is expected to make his MLB debut in 2025.

Trey Sweeney Joins The White Sox

Los Angeles Dodgers infield prospect Trey Sweeney was traded to the Detroit Tigers in the deal that sent right-handed pitcher Jack Flaherty to Los Angeles. Sweeney was considered the 22nd-best prospect in the Dodger system and was on the verge of making his major league debut. Through his first 96 games at the Triple-A level this summer, the Eastern Illinois product has held a .254/.334/.427 line with 13 home runs, 22 doubles, three triples, 62 RBI, and 16 stolen bases. The young infielder is on pace to have the best season of his minor league career. Sweeney should get an opportunity in the big leagues during the stretch run of the season to audition for a full-time role next summer and could be worth a look in deeper AL-only formats.

Trey Sweeney Stays Hot In First Game In The Second Half

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop prospect Trey Sweeney went 4-for-5 with a double and home run in the first game out of the All-Star Break. This game extended Sweeney's current hitting streak to four games. In addition, he has only gone hitless twice since the start of July. This is a great sign, as the former first-round pick struggled through June, carrying a .228 AVG. Overall, through his first 88 games at Triple-A, the Eastern Illinois product has posted a solid .249/.331/.427 line with 13 long balls. If Sweeney continues to stay hot at the plate, he could contend for a late-season major league debut.

Trey Sweeney Mashes Six Homers In Big Week

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop prospect Trey Sweeney is a 24-year-old who was acquired from the Yankees last winter in the Blue Crew's attempt to create 40-man roster space while bolstering their farm system. The former first-round pick is a reliable defender with a strong glove and a decent arm. However, he might not be rangy or athletic enough to play shortstop long-term, suggesting that a move to second or third base will be necessary. At the plate, he has great awareness, using his baseball IQ to draw walks and get the bat on the ball. He isn't viewed as a power hitter, but he gets on base. Although Sweeney isn't a major power threat, he certainly mashed the ball last week. In turn, this generated plenty of buzz about his future, which could include a promotion to the big league club sooner rather than later. Over his last six games, he went 11-for-28 with six homers, 14 RBI, two walks, and eight strikeouts. He also stole a base.

Trey Sweeney Launches Three Home Runs On Wednesday

Los Angeles Dodgers third base prospect Trey Sweeney had a career day at the plate on Wednesday when he went 4-for-4 with three home runs and five RBI. This big game extended Sweeney's hitting streak to seven games. Sweeney opened the season on the right foot with a .301/.431/.441 slash line but has an overall .200/.240/.389 line through May. However, this recent hot stretch should help Sweeney get back on track. The No. 21 prospect in the Dodgers system is projected to reach the majors next season, but he has yet to log a full season at Triple-A. He could make a case for a late-season promotion but should be left on all waiver wires for now.

Trey Sweeney Tallies Four Hits And Brings In Five Runs In Thursday’s Victory

Los Angeles Dodgers third base prospect Trey Sweeney went 4-for-5 with a home run and brought in five runs on Thursday for Triple-A Oklahoma City. Sweeney brought in the first run off a sacrifice fly in the opening frame. Later in the fourth, he broke the stalemate by lining a single to left field to give Oklahoma City the lead. Sweeney then put the game out of reach in the following frame with a solo shot. This was the 24-year-old's second long ball of the season, and he is now up to 16 total RBI in 23 games. The former first-round pick is sporting a .292/.434/.461 line in his first taste of Triple-A this season and is a name to monitor, as he could make a case for a late-season promotion.
