Tyler Duffey News
Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Tyler Duffey has made the team's Opening Day roster. Duffey struggled this spring, allowing 15 hits, nine earned runs, and four homers across 6.1 innings pitched, though he did have a nice 10-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The 30-year-old saw a slight dip in fastball velocity in mid-March- but attributed it to his own tinkering with mechanics rather than any decline, a sentiment supported by his increased velocity towards the end of spring. Duffey has developed into an elite-level reliever over the last two years, posting the two best strikeout rates of his career thanks to increased curveball usage, a pitch that registered a 41.6 percent whiff rate last year. Duffey should be considered a sleeper at his 369 ADP in leagues that count holds.
Minnesota Twins pitcher Tyler Duffey relieved Jake Odorizzi of his services on Saturday and earned the win in the first game of the doubleheader against Kansas City. Duffey pitched a scoreless inning and struck out one batter. The 29-year-old has eleven punch-outs against no walks in eight innings pitched in 2020. Duffey is relying on the filthy curveball a career-high 61.6 percent of the time and has been one of the best relievers in the Minnesota bullpen. While he'll likely only be in line for hold opportunities, his strikeout stuff makes him worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.
Minnesota Twins reliever Tyler Duffey worked the sixth inning and struck out the side in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Duffey has been great to start the season, tossing two scoreless innings with one hit allowed and five strikeouts. It's early on, but Duffey is keeping hitters off balance with his filthy curveball. As of Wednesday, he's throwing the pitch a career-high 46.2% of the time, and inducing a ridiculous 71.4% swing-and-miss rate on pitches outside the strike zone. Duffey likely won't be in line for many save chances this year, but he's again looking like one of the best relievers on the team, proving his 2019 season was no fluke.
