Washington Nationals relief pitcher Victor Arano (shoulder) cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and elected free agency, according to a source. He was placed on the 60-day injured list with a right-shoulder strain in March and didn't pitch at all in 2023 after having surgery. The 28-year-old will have to prove he's healthy before another team takes a chance on him in free agency, likely on a minor-league deal. Arano had a 4.50 ERA (3.71 FIP), 1.40 WHIP, one save, 12 walks and 44 strikeouts in 42 relief innings in his first year with the Nationals in 2022. In his four major-league campaigns, he has a 3.32 ERA (3.39 FIP), 1.23 WHIP, four saves and a 25.3% strikeout rate in 116 relief appearances for the Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies.
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Victor Arano has been designated for assignment by the organization. They needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Ty Tice. The 26-year-old right-hander has been pitching fairly well in the minors. He is posting a 3.86 ERA across seven innings in Triple-A. There is a good chance he goes unclaimed on waivers and returns to the Braves minor leagues. Fantasy managers can continue to ignore Arano until further notice.
Philadelphia Phillies reliever Victor Arano entered Tuesday nights game at Nationals Park with the bases loaded and just one out in the fifth. The 23-year-old managed to escape the jam and would come back out for the sixth. In that frame, however, it all fell apart for the Mexican native. Arano surrendered four runs, including consecutive home runs to end his night in the very same inning. The performance was easily his worst of the season and second consecutive that saw him surrender runs. This comes after he recorded 10 consecutive scoreless outings beginning in the middle of July. Arano took the loss as the Phillies went down to the Nationals, 10-4.
New Philadelphia Phillies closer Victor Arano had a rollercoaster day on Monday as his club played the New York Mets in a doubleheader. The 23-year-old came on in the 10th inning of the clubs opening game with the score tied at three. His outing would be a short one, as five pitches into his inning, he surrendered a walk-off home run. In a positive sign for prospective fantasy onlookers, however, manager Gabe Kapler wasted no time proving his faith in the youngster. With the Phillies up by two in the second game of the day, Arano would come on with a two-run lead. Tossing just five pitches once again, he capped off his day with a save, his third of the season. Mondays performances should do nothing to hurt his status in the bullpen depth chart, so expect to continue seeing him in key situations.
For the second time in three games, Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler went to Victor Arano to close out a victory. With the club up just one run against their inter-state rival Pittsburgh Pirates, the 23-year-old Mexican native came on and gave up a hit, but struck out two en route to his second save. Arano is being rewarded for his strong first half of the season, now boasting a 2.25 ERA in 29 appearances. This, of course, came after posting a 1.69 ERA in 10 games last season. While it appears Kapler will not go with a fixed closer, Arano may be worth a pickup if he records another save the next couple of days.
After Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcherSeranthony Dominguez recorded a four-out save Tuesday night, manager Gabe Kapler gave another reliever the opportunity to save Wednesday afternoons game against the Baltimore Orioles. Holding a three-run lead, Victor Arano was summoned from the bullpen to pitch the eighth inning after ace Aaron Nola tossed seven frames. He would not allow a hit, tossing two shutout innings and striking out three, lowering his ERA to 2.32. The performance would result in the 23-year-olds first ever save. Like Dominguez, Arano has turned into one of the more trustworthy arms in the bullpen and will only earn more late-game situations with effective performances like Wednesdays.
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Victor Arano (shoulder) could come off the disabled list on Wednesday. He made a rehab appearance on Monday and it does not sound like he will need another rehab outing. Arano is posting a 0.75 ERA in 12 innings with 13 strikeouts this season. He's only worth owning in leagues that value holds.
Phillies Place Victor Arano On DL, Recall Zac Curtis
The Philadelphia Phillies placed pitcher Victor Arano (shoulder) on the disabled list with a right rotator cuff strain on Sunday, replacing him by recalling reliever Zac Curtis on Monday. The 23-year-old Arano had been one of the best arms out of the Phillies bullpen, posting a 0.75 ERA through 10 appearances this year. Last season, he also made 10 appearances, posting a 1.69 ERA. Despite the injury being described as mild by the clubs assistant general manager, the move was made. On Monday, Curtis was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 25-year-old tossed a scoreless inning on Monday against the Miami Marlins.
