Texas Rangers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo continues to struggle as a starting pitcher this season. Gallardo gave up six earned runs in five innings in taking his first loss of the season at Boston Tuesday. Since becoming a starter Gallardo has surrendered 21 earned runs in 28 innings. In addition, Gallardo has not exactly been striking a ton of hitters out, with just 18 strikeouts since entering the rotation. Pitching in Arlington is always tough but Gallardo has struggled both at home and on the road this season. With his current form Gallardo is barely usable even in AL-only formats and is certainly someone to avoid in DFS lineups, when pitching.
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo will take the mound for the Rangers for the first time this season on Sunday. The Rangers had to make a decision on Gallardo by last Friday or risk him opting out of his contract. Gallardo somewhat forced the Rangers hand by pitching well at Triple-A. In 49 2/3 innings, he has a 3.81 ERA with 40 strikeouts and just 14 walks. Gallardo has averaged just under five innings a start at Triple-A which is a big concern if you are considering him for DFS. Gallardo does not have enough upside to be particularly useful in daily formats, but he could offer some value for deep season-long leagues.
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo could opt-out of his Triple-A contract with the Rangers on Friday. Unless the Rangers add the right-handed pitcher to their 40-man roster, he could choose to walk away and try his luck elsewhere. Given the state that the Rangers rotation has been in this season it seems likely they will activate him. So far this season at Triple-A, Gallardo has a 3.81 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings. However, the Rangers would need to clear a space on their 40-man roster and that complicates the decision. Even if Gallardo is activated Friday, his value is at best a streamer in deep mixed leagues.
Yovani Gallardo Clears Waivers, Will Become A Free Agent
Former Cincinnati Reds right-hander Yovani Gallardo cleared waivers on Thursday and refused an outright assignment. As a result, Gallardo will now become a free agent, free to sign anywhere he chooses. The Reds designated Gallardo for assignment on Tuesday after he appeared in just three games as a reliever, allowing eight runs in 2 1/3 innings of work.
The Cincinnati Reds designated veteran right-hander Yovani Gallardo for assignment on Tuesday and will replace him on the 25-man roster with right-hander Tanner Rainey. Rainey was pitching at Triple-A Louisville, where he pitched two scoreless innings this season. Gallardo appeared in three games for the Reds, allowing eight runs in 2 1/3 innings. The 32-year-old Gallardo may be running out of chances to contribute at the big league level.
The Cincinnati Reds and free-agent pitcher Yovani Gallardo agreed to a one-year deal on Saturday. Gallardo was released by the Milwaukee Brewers at the end of spring training and will work out of the bullpen for Cincinnati. Gallardo, now 32, was once a top-of-the-rotation pitcher but he has struggled over the past few seasons. Manager Bryan Price explained the team's decision to sign him by stating, Our scouts liked what they saw, especially when he was throwing in those shorter stints, three-inning outings, which he did primarily for Milwaukee this spring and like his stuff. They liked him when he was in Seattle last year out of the bullpen." Gallardo's day of being useful in fantasy are long gone.
Milwaukee Brewers pitcherYovani Gallardo has officially been released, as confirmed by the Milwaukee Brewers on Twitter. With the rotation in Milwaukee set in stone and with the overabundance of pitchers capable of long relief, Gallardo did not really have a fit on the team. Look for him to sign a minor league deal with a team sometime this season.
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo will not make the big league roster, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Brewers' manager Craig Counsell informed Gallardo that he will not make the Brewers' Opening Day roster. It is unclear if he will be released or could conceivably accept a minor league assignment. Gallardo had been in the mix for a bullpen spot after losing out on a spot in the starting rotation.
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo will move to a relief role, beginning with his next spring outing. The veteran right-hander posted a career-worst 5.72 ERA while posting a 1.52 WHIP and 6.5 K/9 in 28 games (22 starts) for Seattle last year, and he's become useless to fantasy owners, especially in a relief role. It's a bit curious with Zach Davies (oblique) nursing an injury, but perhaps Milwaukee is getting close to signing free-agent starter Alex Cobb to boost their rotation.
Free-agent starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo signed with the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Gallardo was the Brewers second-round pick in 2004 and pitched for them from 2007 to 2013. The Mariners declined his $13 million option last month and his combined ERA over the past two seasons is 5.57. Gallardo will be at the back end of the Brewers rotation and had a 3.69 ERA in 214 games (211 starts) in his first stint with Milwaukee.
