Yusniel Diaz Lands Minor-League Deal With Giants

The San Francisco Giants signed free-agent outfielder Yusniel Diaz to a minor-league deal on Tuesday. Diaz made his major-league debut in 2022 with the Baltimore Orioles but struck out in his only plate appearance in one game. The 27-year-old Cuban was once an interesting top prospect with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he hasn't exactly turned out in the big leagues. In 94 games for Double-A Tulsa in 2023, he hit .278 (96-for-345) with 16 home runs, 21 doubles, a triple, 60 RBI, seven stolen bases and 54 runs scored. Diaz is still on the right side of 30 and will be hoping to impress the Giants enough in the minors early in 2024 to eventually get a call-up to the Show.

Dodgers Sign Yusniel Diaz To Minor-League Deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed free-agent outfielder Yusniel Diaz to a minor-league deal on Friday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Diaz made his major-league debut last year with the Baltimore Orioles, but he struck out in his only plate appearance. The 26-year-old was originally signed out of Cuba by the Dodgers in 2015, so he'll be returning to the organization for 2023. He was sent to Baltimore in the blockbuster trade involving Manny Machado in 2018. In six minor-league seasons, Diaz has hit .261/.340/.410 with a .749 OPS, 54 home runs, 268 RBI, 273 runs scored and 39 stolen bases in 523 games played. Given LA's loaded roster, there's a high likelihood that Diaz opens the year in the minors.

Yusniel Diaz Placed On Minor League Injured List Tuesday

Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Yusniel Diaz (hip) was placed on the Minor League seven-day injured list Tuesday with a right hip strain, per MLB.com's Joe Trezza. Diaz, the O's eighth-ranked prospect has already been sidelined for a week at Triple-A Norfolk due to the issue. The 24-year-old has gone 5-for-25 with one home run in his first six games at Norfolk but had a strong spring with the O's. Fantasy managers in dynasty leagues should keep an eye on more news regarding Diaz's health in the coming days.

Yusniel Diaz Hits Two-Run Home Run Sunday

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Yusniel Diaz started Spring Training off on the right foot in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Pirates, going 1-for-2 with a two-run home run. The 24-year-old crushed a sixth-inning Carson Fulmer pitch over the left-field wall. Diaz's is one of the O's better prospects and is expected to make his MLB debut later in the summer, per MASN Sports' Roch Kubatko. Diaz is worth keeping an eye on in dynasty leagues but does not need to be drafted to start fantasy seasons.

Orioles Add Yusniel Diaz, D.L. Hall, Ramon Urias To Player Pool

The Baltimore Orioles added outfielder Yusniel Diaz, left-handed pitcher D.L. Hall and infielder Ramon Urias to their 60-man player pool on Thursday, and they will head to the team's alternate camp in Bowie. According to MLB Pipeline, Diaz is the team's No. 7 prospect, while Hall checks in at No. 3. Diaz has pure hitting ability from the right side of the plate and could become an attractive fantasy outfielder if he develops more power, especially in the American League East. Hall, a former first-round pick in 2017, sits in the mid-90s with his fastball and has improved his changeup. Urias projects as a utility infielder in the big leagues. All three players are unlikely to see major league time in 2020, so they can be ignored in redraft leagues.

Yusniel Diaz Set To Make Grapefruit League Debut This Weekend

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Yusniel Diaz (shoulder) is expected to return to Spring Training action this weekend, according to manager Brandon Hyde. Diaz has been dealing with soreness in his left shoulder, but it is not a long-term concern. The 23-year-old is one of the Orioles' top prospects after he slashed .262/.335/.472 at Double-A Bowie in 2019. The expectation is that he will start the 2020 season at Triple-A Norfolk, but he may make his big-league debut sometime during the campaign. Managers in dynasty formats will want to keep tabs on Diaz.

It remains to be seen what Diaz's role will be with the O's and when he'll debut during the regular season, but he is worth keeping an eye on during spring training for dynasty league purposes.

Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Yusniel Diaz was 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and two walks for Double-A Bowie on Sunday. It was the first big fly of the season for the 22-year-old. Diaz was the main piece the Orioles received in the trade that sent Manny Machado to the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. He was ranked the 64th best prospect in all of baseball heading into 2019, per MLB.com. Diaz has above-average tools across the board and will likely make his big-league debut sometime in 2019.
