Luka Doncic Wants Lakers to Add High-Level Center

Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has made his preference clear for the franchise to add an A-list center, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. Walker Kessler and Jalen Duren have been mentioned as restricted free-agent targets the Lakers have done due diligence on, while Los Angeles is expected to evaluate other trade and free-agent options. Kessler would give the Lakers a shot-blocking, low-usage finisher, while Duren would bring more scoring, rebounding, and physical roll-man production. Either move would clean up Doncic's playmaking environment, but the bigger fantasy swing may come for whichever center lands next to one of the league's best passers.

Luka Doncic Admits He Wasn't Close to Returning Before Season Ended

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Luka Doncic (hamstring) wasn't close to returning before the team's season ended on Monday night. "I know some people wanted me (to come) back, but obviously I wasn't close to clearing," Doncic said. "If I could be out there, I would be, 100%. Everybody in that room knows this is really tough. This is the best time to play basketball." Doncic missed the Lakers' entire postseason campaign after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain on April 2. He said he is running and shooting but hasn't progressed to contact work in practice. Losing Doncic for the playoffs was a massive blow to the Lakers. During his first full season in Los Angeles, Doncic averaged a league-high 33.5 points, along with 7.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.6 steals. Having turned only 27 earlier this year, he is set to remain a fantasy stalwart for the foreseeable future.

Luka Doncic Reveals Recovery Timeline

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Luka Doncic (hamstring) revealed on Wednesday that he was initially given an eight-week recovery timeline, ESPN's Dave McMenamin reports. "The day I did the MRI on the hamstring, the doctor told me eight weeks [recovery] at the beginning," Doncic said. "I'm doing everything I can in the process, and I think we're on a good way. But at the beginning, he told me eight weeks." Thursday will mark five weeks to the day since Doncic suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Based on the initial timeline, Doncic still appears far from returning, but he has progressed to running. In an effort to speed up his recovery, Doncic underwent platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) while overseas.

Luka Doncic Unavailable for Start of Round 2, Considered Week-to-Week

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Luka Doncic (hamstring) is considered week-to-week, ESPN's Shams Charania reports. The Slovenian superstar won't be available at the start of the Lakers' second-round matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder. "He's doing more and more on the court," Charania said Sunday during an appearance on Inside the NBA. "But right now, still not full-fledged running or full-contact workouts." According to Charania, Doncic remains on a "slow path" in his recovery from a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Doncic sustained the injury against the Thunder on April 2. Until Doncic returns, the Lakers' success will hinge on the play of LeBron James and Austin Reaves.

Luka Doncic Remains Without Timetable for Return

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Luka Doncic (hamstring) remains without a timetable for his return, ESPN's Shams Charania reports. "There's still no clarity on the timetable for him," Charania said on Wednesday during an appearance on NBA Today. "He is starting some on-court movement. He's continuing to improve on that. There's still some ways to go, though, for him to have a full ramp-up of basketball activities." Charania added that Doncic is expected to remain sidelined at the start of the second-round matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder if the Lakers advance past Houston. Doncic has been out since April 2 due to a Grade 2 hamstring strain.

Luka Doncic Officially Won't Play During First-Round Series

Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic (hamstring) will officially remain sidelined for the entire first-round series. There was some hope that Doncic would play, but they'd decided to sit him out entirely. The Lakers currently hold a 3-1 lead over the Houston Rockets right now. It seems like the Lakers are going to be fine without Doncic, and hope that he returns for the next round. His absence should mean increased offensive workloads for LeBron James, Rui Hachimara, and Deandre Ayton.

Luka Doncic Not Expected to Play in First-Round Series

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Luka Doncic (hamstring) is not expected to play in the first-round series against the Houston Rockets, ESPN's Shams Charania reports. Ahead of Tuesday's Game 2, Charania provided an update on both Doncic and Austin Reaves (oblique). "The sense around the Lakers is that Austin Reaves is actually the one that's further along than Luka Doncic in their respective rehab processes," Charania said. "I am told Austin Reaves has started 1 on 1 on court work. The Lakers are not expecting Luka Doncic to be back in this series. He is out indefinitely." With Doncic sidelined, LeBron James and Luke Kennard have taken on larger offensive roles. When he returns, Reaves is also expected to benefit from the situation.

Luka Doncic Still Out Tuesday

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Luka Doncic (hamstring) will remain sidelined on Tuesday against the Houston Rockets. The six-time All-Star remains out indefinitely with a left hamstring strain. However, he took part in light activities during Monday's practice, a sign that Doncic is progressing in his recovery. With Austin Reaves (oblique) also out, Luke Kennard and Marcus Smart have more responsibilities in the Lakers' backcourt. Kennard was fantastic in Saturday's series-opening 107-98 win with a game-high 27 points, nailing all five attempts from behind the arc. Meanwhile, Smart contributed in all areas of the game, finishing with 15 points, two rebounds, eight assists, one steal, and two blocks.

Cade Cunningham, Luka Doncic Cleared for Awards Eligibility

Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham and Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic are now eligible for all 2025-26 season honors, according to Shams Charania, after winning their Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge to the 65-game rule. Both remain elite fantasy anchors, with Doncic averaging 33.5 points, 4.0 three-pointers, 7.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.6 steals, while Cunningham posted 23.9 points, 2.0 three-pointers, 5.5 rebounds, 9.9 assists and 1.4 steals across 64 games. This removes any award-related uncertainty in keeper formats. Anthony Edwards was denied, slightly lowering his end-of-season accolade outlook.

Luka Doncic Set to Miss at Least One More Week

According to Khobi Price of The California Post, Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic (hamstring) will miss at least one more week. Doncic remains sidelined indefinitely and is at risk of missing the first round of the playoffs against the Houston Rockets due to a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. It looks like, for the foreseeable future, LeBron James will be relied upon to shoulder the bulk of the Lakers' offensive workload. Luke Kennard will also continue to see an expanded role in the backcourt.
