The New England Patriots released veteran safety Adrian Phillips on Monday, according to a source. The Patriots are getting younger on defense after releasing both Phillips and defensive lineman Lawrence Guy at the start of the post-Bill Belichick era. The 31-year-old Phillips was heading into the final year of his four-year, $12.75 million deal. New England will save $3 million in salary cap space with the move, leaving behind $1.18 million in dead cap space. Phillips, a former undrafted free agent, never missed a game in his four seasons with the Patriots but was demoted to a backup role in 2023, ultimately finishing with only 17 tackles (10 solo) in just one start.
Adrian Phillips Picks Up Knee Injury In Monday's Win
New England Patriots defensive back Adrian Phillips (knee) exited Monday's game against the Buffalo Bills early with a knee injury and did not return. The 29-year-old suffered a knee injury late in the game. He racked up five solo tackles before leaving. The severity of his knee injury is unknown at this time, and he's considered day-to-day. Phillips has been solid this season, recording 64 tackles, four interceptions, a forced fumble, and a touchdown across 13 games in 2021. Adrian Phillips Set To Return From Injured Reserve
Los Angeles Chargers safety Adrian Phillips (forearm) has been designated as a player that will return from Injured Reserve, and he could play as soon as Monday night against the Chiefs in Week 11. He was placed on IR on Sept. 17 after breaking his forearm in the loss to the Lions. Second-year safety Derwin James (foot) will likely be the team's second player that will be allowed to come off IR to close out the season. Phillips played in all 16 games last year and had 94 tackles, nine passes defensed, an interception and a forced fumble, so he will be a huge addition to the secondary when he returns. LA's defense could close the year as an every-week fantasy consideration.
Adrian Phillips Out Indefinitely For Chargers Defense
Los Angeles Chargers safety Adrian Phillips (forearm) suffered a broken forearm in the Week 2 loss to the Lions and is expected to be sidelined indefinitely, according to a league source. Phillips was replacing All-Pro safety Derwin James in the Bolts secondary, so this latest injury is just another blow to the Chargers Defense early in the season. It could make the Bolts defense more attackable from a fantasy standpoint. They'll be back home in Week 3 against the Texans and could have a tough time containing wideouts DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller deep down the field.
