San Francisco 49ers cornerback Ambry Thomas (ankle) came out of Sunday's NFC Championship win over the Detroit Lions with an ankle injury and is being considered day-to-day for now, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Thomas will now have two weeks to heal up before Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, Feb. 11, against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 24-year-old was injured in the fourth quarter on a deep pass attempt to second-year wideout Jameson Williams. His injury doesn't sound very serious, so we'd be surprised if he's not able to play in the Super Bowl in two weeks. The former third-round pick in 2021 out of Michigan had a career-high 43 tackles (35 solo), an interception, seven passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 15 regular-season games for the Niners.

49ers Draft Ambry Thomas With Third-Round Selection
The San Francisco 49ers selected Michigan cornerback Ambry Thomas with the No. 102 overall pick in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft on Friday night. Thomas is projected to serve as a bump-and-run cornerback with starting upside for San Francisco. At just 6-foot, 183 pounds, he is not very physical, though, and will surely struggle against bigger, more physical pass-catchers in the NFL. While Thomas isn't all that agile, he makes up for it with impressive recovery speed. He opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 and tallied 38 tackles (three for loss), three interceptions, four pass breakups and two fumble recoveries in 13 starts for Michigan in 2019.
