Chiefs Release Anthony Firkser

The Kansas City Chiefs released tight ends Anthony Firkser and Baylor Cupp, linebacker Shaun Bradley, offensive guard McKade Mettauer and safety Jason Taylor on Wednesday, according to KPRC's Aaron Wilson. They also received an international exemption for offensive tackle Chukwuebuka Godrick. Firkser is the biggest name of the bunch. The 30-year-old veteran tight end played for both the Chiefs and New York Jets last year but didn't contribute at all on offense and wasn't targeted in the passing game in seven total games with both teams. He signed a Reserve/Futures deal after KC's Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles but will now be searching for a new organization after the 2025 NFL draft. Firkser hasn't caught a pass in the NFL since 2022 with the Atlanta Falcons.

Chiefs Re-Sign Anthony Firkser To Futures Deal

The Kansas City Chiefs re-signed tight end Anthony Firkser to a Reserve/Futures deal on Wednesday. Firkser began the 2024 season with the New York Jets before finding his way to the Chiefs and ending the year on their practice squad. The 29-year-old tight end was active for seven total games with the Jets and Chiefs last season but was not targeted at all on offense. He will now stick with Kansas City and train with the team this offseason before trying to grab a 53-man roster spot this summer in training camp as depth at the position. The Harvard alumni debuted in the NFL in 2018 with the Tennessee Titans and spent his first four years in the league in Tennessee before bouncing around with the Falcons, Lions, Jets and Chiefs. Firkser has caught 115 passes for 1,207 yards and five touchdowns on 153 targets in his seven years in the NFL.

Anthony Firkser Signed By The Jets

The New York Jets have signed former Detroit Lions tight end Anthony Firkser. Firkser joins a Jets tight end room led by Tyler Conklin. Firkser only appeared in two games for the Lions in 2023 and did not record a statistic. This appears to be a depth add for the Jets as they prepare for the season's long haul with eyes set on the Super Bowl. Time will tell if Firkser manages to make the final roster. This move is of little consequence for fantasy football.

Anthony Firkser Joins Active Roster

Detroit Lions tight end Anthony Firkser has been signed to the active roster on Saturday. Firkser will join the team with fellow tight end James Mitchell (hand) landing on the injured reserve. The move to add Firkser to the roster could mean that the Lions are preparing to be without Sam LaPorta (knee) for this game. The expectation is that Firkser will serve as the backup to Brock Wright ahead of Sunday's playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Anthony Firkser Signs With Patriots

The New England Patriots have reached a deal with free-agent tight end Anthony Firkser. The details of the deal are unknown, but it's assumed to be a one-year deal on league minimum. Most recently, Firkser played with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022-2023. He finished with nine receptions for 100 yards in 11 games with the team. To be fair, Firkser was mainly used as a blocking specialist in Atlanta. He managed 73 receptions, 678 yards, and three touchdowns between 2020 and 2021 as a rotational player with the Tennessee Titans. He's not expected to have a huge role in New England. He has a decent shot at making the roster, but probably won't do enough to warrant rostering in fantasy formats.

Falcons Sign Anthony Firkser To 53-Man Roster

The Atlanta Falcons have signed tight end Anthony Firkser to the 53-man roster after he was elevated from the practice squad last week. The 27-year-old caught one pass for six yards in the season opener, as he was one of three different tight ends to get a target in Week 1. Kyle Pitts will lead the way at the position, while Parker Hesse also remains in the mix for the Atlanta offense. Firkser could be as low as the No. 3 option on the depth chart, so he offers no fantasy appeal unless someone ahead of him misses some time.

Anthony Firkser Elevated To Active Roster

Atlanta Falcons tight end Anthony Firkser has been promoted to the active roster ahead of Sunday's divisional matchup against New Orleans. He was sitting on the practice squad, so this will be his first official game wearing anything other than a Titans uniform. Throughout his four seasons in Tennessee, the 27-year-old had some fantasy value, accumulating 106 catches for 1,107 yards and five touchdowns. However, with Kyle Pitts in front of Firkser on the depth chart, he isn't worth a look from fantasy managers, even if Drake London (knee) doesn't play.

Falcons Sign Anthony Firkser

The Atlanta Falcons have signed free agent TE Anthony Firkser to a one-year deal. Firkser reunites with coach Arthur Smith, who had a direct connection with him as the former tight ends coach in Tennessee. Bringing another ex-Titan skill position player in addition to QB Marcus Mariota is worth mentioning, but is not likely to have major fantasy implications. Kyle Pitts' value does not budge with the addition to the depth chart, nor does Firkser's value change due to the coaching reunion. One player who may see a slight value bump is the Titans' new TE Austin Hooper. Hooper should capture a high snap share with Geoff Swain now directly behind him on the depth chart. However, the Tennessee TE usage both in and out of the red zone does not garner consideration outside of deep league formats.

Anthony Firkser To Work On Third Downs And Special Teams

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said that tight end Anthony Firkser's main role right now is on third down and on special teams. The Titans have been hoping to feature Firkser more in the red zone as well. The Titans were on their bye in Week 13, so perhaps he'll be a bigger part of the passing game on third downs and in the red zone when they return to action in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 26-year-old has 20 receptions for 145 yards and no touchdowns on 28 targets through 10 games this season while losing targets to both MyCole Pruitt and Geoff Swaim. Firkser leads the team's TEs with his 145 receiving yards, but both Pruitt and Swaim have 139 yards apiece and have combined for five touchdowns. Firkser has played over 50% of the offensive snaps just once in 2021 and will remain a TE2 to avoid coming out of the bye.

Anthony Firkser Recovers Touchdown In Loss To Texans

Tennessee Titans tight end Anthony Firkser caught 5-of-7 targets for 26 yards and recovered a fumble for a touchdown during Sunday's 22-13 loss to the Houston Texans. In a wild play, Titans running back Dontrell Hilliard fumbled near the goal-line, and Firkser recovered the football in the end zone for a touchdown. The Titans' offense struggled as a whole on Sunday, but Firkser had a decent game as he was second on the team with seven targets and did find the end zone. The 26-year-old has now caught 19 passes for 138 yards over nine games in 2021. Titans tight end Geoff Swaim (head) was ruled out with a concussion; Firkser saw an uptick in targets and usage in Sunday's loss. Despite the increased role, the Harvard product is not a recommended streamer against the New England Patriots in Week 12.
