The New Orleans Saints re-signed wide receiver Austin Carr to an undisclosed one-year deal on Thursday. Carr has played in 21 regular season games and two postseason contests with the team since being claimed off waivers from the Patriots at the end of the 2017 preseason. He has just 10 catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns over the last three seasons, appearing in six games (three starts) in 2019 before going on Injured Reserve at midseason. The 26-year-old will strictly provide receiver depth in New Orleans and shouldn't be looked at by fantasy owners.
Austin Carr Scores Touchdown In Second Preseason Game
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Austin Carr put up the only touchdown by a wideout in Sunday's preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Carr finished the game with one reception for 27 yards and a touchdown. Though Carr was quiet most of the game, he capitalized on his one reception when the Saints needed it most. Carr currently has a spot on the third-string offense and shouldn't be rostered in most fantasy football leagues.
New Orleans Saints undrafted wide receiver Austin Carr is expected to work out of the slot in Week 1 against the Buccaneers. Despite only playing in one career game with no catches, he has impressed quarterback Drew Brees enough and gained his trust. Carr could be DFS deep sleeper on Sunday in a good matchup.
Saints Claim Austin Carr and Taysom Hill for Depth Purposes
The New Orleans Saints made a pair of waiver claims on Sunday, adding some depth to their skill positions on offense. Austin Carr, an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern, was claimed from the Patriots. He is mainly a slot receiver and could fill a temporary void left behind by Willie Snead's three-week suspension. The Saints also added quarterback Taysom Hill, just hours after waiving Garrett Grayson as their third QB. Hill is a BYU graduate who played with the Packers this preseason, completing 14 of 20 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Hill may not stick as anything but a practice squad player, but Carr does have a chance to make an impact if he impresses early on.
