New York Jets running backs Austin Walter and La'Mical Perine are both inactive for the Week 18 regular season finale against the Buffalo Bills. Tevin Coleman is back in the fold on Sunday after missing last week's game due to COVID-19, so Walter will take a seat to close out the season. The 25-year-old will finish with only 26 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown in four games played. Walter added two catches for nine yards. Rookie Michael Carter should see most of the backfield work against a tough Bills defense, but Coleman and Ty Johnson could also pitch in behind him. Carter is the back you want to target in fantasy, but the presence of Coleman and Johnson could cap his ceiling as more of an RB3/flex.
New York Jets running back Austin Walter was asked to step up after Michael Carter (concussion) went down in the middle of the game. The Jets have little depth at running back with Tevin Coleman also sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols. That being said, Walter was given an increased workload since the Jets lost their first two backs. He rushed 14 times for 49 yards in the loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He surprisingly did have some decent runs to the outside in this game. Walter could be asked to be the lead back next week, assuming Carter and Coleman aren't cleared to play. However, it's tough to imagine him having much value against the Buffalo Bills defense.
Austin Walter - Week 14 Outlook for Fantasy Football
New York Jets running back Austin Walter made his season debut with nine carries in Week 12. However, it seemed like a fluke appearance because last week he only saw one attempt on the ground. Now, Walter could be forced into significant playing time again with Michael Carter (ankle) ruled out and Tevin Coleman (concussion) unlikely to play. That means, Walter and Ty Johnson could be asked to be the primary backs against the New Orleans Saints in Week 14. That wouldn't be good news for the Jets against one of the better rushing defenses in the league. Walter could end up seeing 10-plus carries, but isn't someone who should be started in any fantasy formats this week.
New York Jets running back Austin Walter was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles. The 25-year-old logged his first touches of the season last week, ultimately finishing with nine rushes, 38 yards, and a touchdown. Although he remains the third-string back behind Tevin Coleman and Ty Johnson, Walter should continue to see a couple touches per game with Michael Carter (ankle) on IR. Still, he's not on the fantasy radar.
New York Jets running back Austin Walter saw his first action of the season against the Houston Texans in Week 12. The Jets are without Michael Carter (ankle) which means Walter was asked to step up as the third back. On Sunday, Walter rushed nine times for 38 yards and one touchdown in the win. This was a quality outing for the Jets "spark plug" back, but it's tough to trust him on a weekly basis. He'll be a tough option to trust against the Philadelphia Eagles next week.
The San Francisco 49ers played it safe with their whole running back until in Saturday's preseason win over the Dallas Cowboys, as all four of the players who are expected to make the final roster didn't play. If there is an opening, it's for the fourth-string spot that Jeffrey Wilson Jr. currently holds, but Saturday didn't show us much in terms of a potential change to that spot. Austin Walter had 18 total touches, rushing 13 times for 38 yards and adding five catches for 32, so if there's a back to keep an eye on after this one, it'd be him. Still, his best chance at fantasy relevance is to end up on a different team when the regular season rolls around.
