Commanders Releasing Bobby McCain

The Washington Commanders are releasing starting slot cornerback/safety Bobby McCain on Monday, according to a source. With the Commanders having young talent in the secondary, McCain became the odd-man out. Washington will save $4.42 million against the 2023 salary cap by releasing McCain. The 29-year-old former fifth-round pick in 2015 by the Miami Dolphins had a career-high 76 tackles (54 solo), three tackles for loss, five passes defensed and one forced fumble in 17 games (16 starts) in his second year with the Commanders in 2022. The eight-year NFL veteran should draw plenty of interest on the open market this offseason, and he'll have a jump start on the market before the new league year begins on March 15.

Bobby McCain Signing With Washington

Former Miami Dolphins safety Bobby McCain is signing an undisclosed one-year deal with the Washington Football Team on Friday, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. McCain was a starter and team captain over six seasons with the Dolphins before he was released this offseason, but he should immediately play a key role in Washington's secondary in 2021. His arrival could put Troy Apke's roster spot in jeopardy this summer, and McCain will give Kamren Curl some competition for the free safety spot. The 27-year-old was a fifth-round pick by Miami in 2015, and he spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Dolphins. McCain totaled 46 tackles (39 solo), one interception and five passes defensed in 16 games (15 starts) last year. He has seven career interceptions and 30 passes defensed.

Bobby McCain To Visit With Washington

Former Miami Dolphins safety Bobby McCain, who was released on Thursday, is scheduled to visit with the Washington Football Team on Monday, according to a source. The 27-year-old was taken in the fifth round in 2015 out of Memphis and grew into a dependable member of Miami's secondary. But the Dolphins are gearing up to be contenders and saw McCain's release as a way to save some salary cap space. If he's designated as a pre-June 1 cut, Miami will save $5.6 million. If he's designated as a post-June 1 cut, Miami will save $6.4 million. In 16 games for the Dolphins last year, McCain recorded 46 tackles (39 solo), one interception and five passes defensed.

Dolphins Releasing Bobby McCain

The Miami Dolphins informed team captain and starting safety Bobby McCain that they are releasing him on Thursday, according to a source. McCain, who was drafted in the fifth round in 2015 out of Memphis, grew into a dependable member of Miami's secondary. He signed a contract extension in 2018, but his release was a way for the team to save some salary cap space. McCain's release will save the team between $5.6 million (pre-June 1 cut) and $6.4 million (post-June 1 cut) while carrying less than $2 million in dead money. With McCain out the door, Miami could decide to bring in former Colts safety Malik Hooker, who they visited with earlier in the week. McCain has 254 tackles (nine for loss), seven QB hits, seven interceptions, 30 passes defensed and four sacks in 87 career games (55 starts) in his six seasons with the Dolphins.

Bobby McCain Out 2-3 Weeks

Miami Dolphins cornerback Bobby McCain (knee) will be out two to three weeks with a knee injury, according to a source. Miami's secondary wasn't all that great to begin with, so this is a notable loss in the immediate future. McCain had 17 tackles and an interception through four weeks of the season.
