Brandon Scherff News
Former Washington Commanders Pro Bowl offensive guard Brandon Scherff intends to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to a source. Scherff was a first-round pick (fifth overall) by Washington in 2015 out of Iowa, and he's been a key cog on their offensive line ever since. Scherff is a five-time Pro Bowler, including in each of the last three seasons, so he'll be an immediate upgrade for the Jaguars offensive line as they look to protect second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence better. Scherff played in only 11 games in 2021, but when healthy, he remains one of the better blocking guards in the NFL.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets are the three teams showing the most interest in free-agent offensive guard Brandon Scherff, according to sources. Scherff is not expected to re-sign with the Washington Commanders. The 30-year-old has spent his entire seven-year career in Washington, but he figures to go elsewhere for the 2022 season and beyond. Scherff is a five-time Pro Bowler, including each of the last three seasons, although he's dealt with injuries in recent years. He was also named to the first-team All-Pro team in 2020. When healthy, he's been one of the better blocking guards in the NFL.
Washington Commanders impending free-agent offensive guard Brandon Scherff is unlikely to return to the team in 2022 for an eighth season. Scherff received the franchise tag in each of the last two years, and the five-time Pro Bowler would receive a 44% increase on last year's $18.04 million salary if Washington tagged him a third time. The former first-rounder's injury history and prohibitive cost likely mean he'll be moving on this offseason. The 30-year-old has been a Pro Bowler each of the last three seasons, but he played in only 11 games in 2021 and has never played in a full season in his seven NFL campaigns in D.C.
