Dalton Keene News
The New England Patriots placed rookie tight end Dalton Keene (knee) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday. Rookie Devin Asiasi is also on IR, so that leaves just Ryan Izzo as the only current tight end on the team's active roster. Keene, a third-round pick out of Virginia Tech, has played in just one game this year and caught his only target for eight yards. He obviously wasn't fantasy relevant to begin with. Izzo, 24, becomes a bit more attractive as depth in the deepest of leagues. Izzo has just nine catches on 15 targets for 114 scoreless yards in eight games in 2020. The Patriots just don't utilize the position much now that Rob Gronkowski is in Tampa. Update: With Keene going on IR Tuesday, the Pats claimed tight end Jordan Thomas off waivers from the Cardinals.
The New England Patriots have signed Virginia Tech tight end Dalton Keene to a four-year deal. The Pats surrendered three picks, including a 2021 sixth-rounder, to move up 24 spots to select Keene with the No. 101 pick. He finished with 59 receptions, 748 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns during his three seasons in college. He led all FBS tight ends in 2019 with 8.5 yards after the catch per reception. The Pats also drafted tight end Devin Asiasi, so they should battle for playing time in camp.
The New England Patriots selected tight end Dalton Keene out of Virginia Tech with at No. 101 overall in the third round as a means of continuing to bolster the position. Keene brings athleticism and some blocking abilities. He finished 2019 with 21 receptions, 240 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games played. New England also selected tight end Devin Asiasi out of UCLA with the 91st pick, so it will be interesting to see how both tight ends will be utilized in the offense, considering fellow tight ends Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo will also be involved in the mix. As of now, no tight ends on New England should be considered relevant in fantasy in 2020, especially with Tom Brady no longer in town.
