The Denver Broncos are signing free-agent wide receiver Damion Willis to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday, according to a source. Willis has spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars. He played in 10 games (two starts) with Cincinnati in 2019 and had just nine catches on 16 targets for 82 yards and no touchdowns. The 23-year-old didn't do a whole lot to impress when A.J. Brown was injured in 2019, and he'll strictly represent depth at a stacked position for the Broncos in 2021. Courtland Sutton is returning from an ACL tear suffered in Week 2 last season, and the Broncos also have Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler and Tim Patrick.
The Cleveland Browns claimed wide receiver Damion Willis off waivers from the Bengals on Wednesday. Willis played in 10 games (two starts) for Cincinnati in his rookie season in 2019, catching nine passes on 16 targets for 82 yards and no touchdowns. The Troy product went undrafted and will just be providing depth at the position if he sticks on the team's roster beyond training camp.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Damion Willis played in his first NFL contest on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, but he was clearly the third or fourth receiving option for the team. Tyler Boyd and John Ross were the Bengals primary pass catchers with AJ Green (ankle) out of the lineup, seeing a combined 23 targets. Willis was only targeted five times on Sunday, reeling in three of them for 30 yards. Unless Boyd or Ross suffers an injury before Green returns to action, the rookie wide receiver is likely to have a minimal role in Cincys passing attack.
Cincinnati Bengals undrafted rookie wide receiver Damion Willis is expected to serve as the X receiver in A.J. Green's absence to begin the season. It means that Willis should be in three-receiver sets right away in Week 1 against the Seahawks alongside Tyler Boyd and John Ross in the slot. Willis has good size and speed and could be a deep DFS sleeper in the regular season opener. With Green not expected to miss much time, Willis probably isn't worth taking in redraft leagues, but he's certainly one to watch and could be worth a flier in dynasty formats.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Damion Willis has had a strong showing at practices so far. In the teams fifth day of training camp, the undrafted free agent garnered the interest of many, including quarterback Andy Dalton. With A.J. Green (ankle) expected to miss some games and John Ross (hamstring) potentially being unable to participate for at least a few weeks, the 22-year-old is making a solid case to beat out both Cody Core and Josh Malone for Cincys second receiving spot behind breakout candidate Tyler Boyd until Green and Ross are ready to play.
