The Kansas City Chiefs agreed to an undisclosed one-year deal with veteran free-agent defensive tackle Danny Shelton on Tuesday, according to his agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha. Shelton played in 13 games (zero starts) for the New York Giants last year, recording 31 tackles (12 solo) and half a sack. He was originally a first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2015 out of the University of Washington, and he spent his first three seasons in the NFL in Cleveland. The 28-year-old pass-rusher has also spent time with the New England Patriots and Detroit Lions. Shelton will be looking to compete for a starting spot on the interior of KC's defensive line. He has 278 tackles (138 solo), 17 tackles for loss, 19 QB hits, six sacks and a forced fumble in seven NFL seasons.
Free-agent defensive tackle Danny Shelton had a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders. The former first-round pick has struggled to make much of an impact over the last two seasons. Before that, Shelton recorded 61 tackles and three sacks through 16 games with the New England Patriots. Lately, the Raiders have made it a habit of signing former Pats players. That being said, it wouldn't be shocking to see them add Shelton to their roster. Although, the veteran tackle would likely just be rotational depth for the organization.
Free-agent defensive tackle Danny Shelton is visiting with the Carolina Panthers on Monday, according to a source. Shelton could serve as defensive line depth before training camp kicks off this week. The 28-year-old spent last season with the New York Giants, recording 31 tackles (12 solo) and half a sack in 13 games (zero starts). He was originally the 12th overall pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2015 out of Auburn. Shelton has spent time with the Browns, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions and Giants in his seven years in the league and has totaled 278 tackles (138 solo), six sacks, 17 tackles for loss, 19 QB hits and a forced fumble in 100 games (72 starts).
New York Giants defensive tackle Danny Shelton (pectoral) is listed as day-to-day after straining his pectoral muscle in the Week 6 blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, according to a source. The belief is it's not torn, which would have knocked Shelton out for the rest of the season. The 28-year-old has mostly been playing behind Austin Johnson on New York's defensive line, as he hasn't seen more than 40% of the defensive snaps in any one game so far this season. Shelton also contributes frequently on special teams. He'll try to get right in order to play in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers.
The New England Patriots are acquiring defensive tackle Danny Shelton from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a conditional pick, according to league sources. The third-year defensive lineman combined for 34 tackles in 14 games last year but is more of a run-stuffer, with just 1.5 sacks in his three seasons. The Patriots can use all the help they can find, as their defense was a weak spot in 2017. Shelton should help plug up running lanes for them in 2018.
