Free-agent cornerback Darius Slay is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, sources tell FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz. Slay, a 34-year-old veteran, was a salary-cap casualty this offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles but won't be on the open market for long. The six-time Pro Bowler is now headed to the AFC North after spending the first 12 seasons of his NFL career in the NFC with the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles. While he's no longer in the prime of his career, Slay can still produce after totaling 106 tackles (87 solo), two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 27 pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 26 regular-season starts in Philadelphia over the last two years. Slay will certainly be an improvement for Pittsburgh's secondary once he's officially released by the Eagles as a post-June 1 cut.
The Philadelphia Eagles are releasing six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay on Monday, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter. If the Eagles designate Slay a post-June 1 release, they will save $4.3 million against the 2025 salary cap. In his five seasons in Philadelphia, Slay helped lead the team to two Super Bowls (winning one) while recording nine interceptions, 56 pass breakups and 272 tackles. However, the 34-year-old is nearing the end of his career, and the writing was on the wall for Slay after rookie defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean both excelled in 2024. Slay is planning to play one more season in the NFL, potentially back with the Detroit Lions, where he played the first sevens years of his NFL career. Although the former second-rounder play fell off a bit last year, he could still attract plenty of interest from contending teams in free agency this offseason.
The Athletic's Brooks Kubena suggests that Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay, who has the sixth-highest salary cap hit on the team in 2025, could be a cap casualty this offseason. Cutting the 34-year-old Slay with a post-June 1 designation would save the team $4.3 million this year and $17.7 million in 2026. The six-time Pro Bowler continues to play at a high level for the Eagles, but he also battled multiple injuries in 2024 and missed time with groin and knee ailments. Philadelphia may find it hard to get rid of such an influential player in their secondary, but they have the luxury to do so after both defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean (their first two draft picks last year) were finalists for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Slay didn't record an interception during the regular season and finished with 49 tackles (39 solo), 13 pass breakups, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 14 regular-season games.
According to the team, Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Darius Slay Jr. (elbow) is questionable to return to Sunday's wild-card game against the Green Bay Packers. Before exiting, Slay tallied two tackles (both solo) and an interception. While sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Isaiah Rodgers to see most of the snaps.
Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay (back) was injured late in the fourth quarter in Monday night's wild-card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had to be carted to the locker room. Slay got bent awkwardly while trying to make a tackle and then grabbed at the right side of his back. He appeared to be in a lot of pain and could be dealing with a significant injury, but we may not know the extent of it until Monday after he undergoes more tests. The Eagles' season is now over anyway after the 32-9 loss, so Slay will have all offseason to heal up. The 33-year-old had missed the final four games of the regular season due to a knee issue. The five-time Pro Bowler only played 12 games in his fourth year in Philly and finished the regular season with 57 tackles (48 solo), two interceptions (one for a touchdown) and 14 passes defensed.
Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Darius Slay (knee) was a full participant during Thursday's practice. The stud defensive back recently underwent surgery on his knee prior to Week 15. However, it sounds like Slay is trending in the right direction ahead of Monday's Wild-Card matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His availability would provide this defense with a much-needed boost ahead of this game. There is still a few more days of practice, but Slay appears to be ready to go.
Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay (knee) has been ruled out for a third consecutive game in Week 17 while tending to a knee injury. Slay had arthroscopic knee surgery ahead of Philadelphia's Week 15 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks and has avoided injured reserve since he was not expected to need four weeks to recover. During his absence the Eagles have allowed a total of 396 passing yards, though that was against Drew Lock and the combined efforts of Tommy Devito and Tyrod Taylor. Philadelphia's secondary has usually been one of the league's worst in 2023, and they will likely miss Slay's contributions against a stiffer opponent in Kyler Murray (illness) when they take on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Darius Slay Has Surgery, Will Miss Monday Night Game
Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay (knee) had arthroscopic knee surgery this week and will be out for the Monday night game in Week 15 against the Seattle Seahawks, but he is expected to return by the end of the regular season, according to sources. It's a big-time loss for an already suspect Eagles secondary as they look to snap a their first two-game losing streak since the 2021 season. The 32-year-old five-time Pro Bowler has 57 tackles, 15 passes defensed and two interceptions this year. Slay's absence will be great news for Seahawks wideout DK Metcalf on Monday night. With Slay out this week, Bradley Roby will be pushed into more playing time as the Eagles look to slow down Seattle's passing attack.
Eagles Will Have Darius Slay, Jalen Carter Against Miami
Fantasy managers should probably be fading the Philadelphia Eagles defense/special teams unit in Week 7 as they face the highest-scoring offense in the NFL in the Miami Dolphins, but they will at least be getting both cornerback Darius Slay (knee) and rookie defensive tackle Jalen Carter (ankle) back after they missed the Week 6 loss to the New York Jets. Meanwhile, free safety Reed Blankenship (ribs) and cornerback Bradley Roby (shoulder) have been ruled out. Right tackle Lane Johnson (ankle) will also play on the offensive side of the ball for Philly. The returns of both Slay and Carter is big news for the Eagles as they look to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time since 2021.
Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Darius Slay (knee) has been officially ruled out for the Week 6 matchup against the New York Jets. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise considering Slay was unable to practice all week. He suffered a knee injury last week, so it appears the issue is still bothering him. The expectation is that either Bradley Roby or Josh Jobe will get the spot start at corner this week. The hope is that Slay will be able to return for the Week 7 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
