David Blough News
The Detroit Lions re-signed quarterback David Blough to an undisclosed deal on Thursday, according to a source. Blough will compete for the backup job to Jared Goff with Tim Boyle and potentially a rookie in 2022. The 26-year-old played in just one game for the Lions last year and took one sack while not attempting a pass. He made five starts in Detroit in his rookie season in 2019 but hasn't started a game since. Blough has completed 100 of his 184 attempts for 1,033 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions in seven career games. He won't be guaranteed to make the Lions active roster out of training camp.
Detroit Lions quarterback David Blough completed 11-of-17 passes for 117 yards with one interception in the team's final preseason game against the Colts. Blough came into the game after teammate Tim Boyle and was able to move the chains on a 14-play touchdown drive in the second quarter. Blough also added a gritty 11-yard run in the red zone to pick up a first down in that sequence. Blough has endured an up-and-down preseason and this performance may not have been enough to earn the QB2 spot on the team.
Based on repetitions on Friday, The Athletic's Chris Burke guesses that quarterback David Blough will get the start on Friday night in the preseason finale against the Indianapolis Colts. Blough is likely to head into the final preseason game as the leader in the race for backup QB duties behind Jared Goff. Tim Boyle is better at creating chunk plays down the field, but Blough has been more reliable in training camp and the preseason. The Lions don't intend to play their starters on Friday night, so those in DFS contests should avoid in Detroit starters. Blough went 12-for-17 for 143 yards and a touchdown in the team's last preseason contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
